Late payments can hurt your credit score. You can't remove them from your report before its time (7 years). You may hear about the ways to get removed the late payments from the credit report but remember it is not possible. The agency who is making this promise is a scam.

You can dispute the late payment with the credit bureau if you want to. If the creditor fails to respond within 30 days the late payment will be deleted.

Hey Barbara!! Why would you dispute it? You have paid off a valid debt. It will stay there on your credit report for 7 years. If it's a closed account, then it will be there on your credit report for up to 10 years.
