Banking after a garnishment/levy
When a levy order is granted,
When a levy order is granted, copies of the levy are sent to all banks/credit unions in your state. There is a good chance they already have the levy on file.
Cash your check at walmart and put it on a prepaid debit card.
Have they not found your employment to garnish your wages yet?? There is a possiblity you could be call into court to disclose your wages.
I was never called to court
I was never called to court to disclose my wages.. as far as I know.
I'm no longer employed at that place any longer though. I was for about a year though, and they never garnished the wages. I'm doing side work now and I get paid by personal checks, so I can't use Walmart for those, which is why I needed the bank account.
I went and opened the account (I had to before you responded! tried waiting though...). I got half of the money cashed and they put a 5 day hold on the remaining amount. I was hoping I could just pull the money out before they found the account.
I was hoping it was just a garnishment on that bank account and they would have to re-file to find my new bank account.

After reading about this
After reading about this online a little bit more... i found that if your account has been levied that if you try to open a new account at another bank you will be refused.
Mine opened up without any problems... so where exactly do I stand?
I planned to leave like $20 in the account and monitor it to see if it gets frozen, and then just strictly cash the personal checks.
Unless you have money in the
Unless you have money in the account, they will put a hold on personal checks. Get paid in cash.
