There was an odd voice message left just now. I know the chances of it being legit are about zero. Still. . .

she talked so fast I could barely hear here but the gist was she said she was calling from someplace services in Flathead County (county I live in) notifying me of a pending claim that was being filed, something about diligence I think. Then she said they'd be actively verifying places of employment and residence or something like that. Again, she talked so fast it was hard to note everything. She said I had until 5 PM eastern time (btw, I'm in Mountain time) to contact the people at 855-849-9171. A number that I can't find any information about. Then she gave me my claim number. 229257 ?

Helen in MT

I phone the 855 number, in order to see who it was and to try and get their address to send a C&D. The lady said it was United. When I asked, "United what?" she replied, "Just United". I said that they had to have a complete name and she said that's all they go by. Then I tried for the mailing address. Her response, "We don't give out that information". I told her she was full of it and she responded, "Due to the nature of our business, pre-litigation, we do not give out our address. We are not a threat". I then hung up on her.

They refuse to give me any information, address, etc so I can't send them a C&D letter. The only thing I could report would be the phone number and voice mails? She left another one on my cell number today. I believe she thinks it's my work number. She said she was from the processing department with United and my paperwork had been 'forwarded' to her. She said she understood I had sought outside counsel but they had not contacted them.

WHERE she got that I have no idea because that's not true. She said an actual financial institution is looking to sue me for the returned item and any other counsel but a lawyer would not be able to assist me and said it had nothing to do with my credit. (my checking acct was closed and a new one reopened and I notified the Payday Loan Companies of revocation of ACH, etc.). Then said something about advising to take the settlement of $510 that I had refused and not showing up with counsel empty handed b/c at the end of the month I'd be looking at 2500 in ct fees. Yeah, okay. Sure. And pigs fly.

You can file a complaint with the FTC, BBB, so on.
@ReaFred I have read your many posts about getting the phone calls at work. They will stop calling! You've got to give it time. If you are at work and they call just hang up the phone after a while they will stop. Tell your co-workers that you are a victim of a scam. I had many payday loans and I got calls so I got a whistle and blew that in their ear, I hung up on them, I called them and pestered the hell out of them. Eventually, they will stop you just have to wait it out.

So I can send them a C&D letter or the like in addition to filling complaints? All I have is the name. United and phone number.. the 855 number. Doing searches doesn't result in a specific company for me to be certain.

Its United Recovery. I blocked my number and called them. I asked if they were United Auto and they said no United Recovery. She kept asking me what was this in regards to and I told her I thought this was a auto wrecker service and hung up. I suspect that they are spoofing their number when they call so its hard to trace them. Just stay off the phone with them if at all possible. Don't answer and eventually they will stop.

Okay, here you go. Go to the BBB website bbb.org and search United Recovery Systems. They are in Houston, TX, Oklahoma and a couple other places. In 2012 they were fined by the FTC for unfair practices. You can find there address there. Good luck

This insane business has an A+ rating???? How can that be? I did file a complaint with the FTC. How'd you find out they were fined in 2012 for unfair practices?

They contacted my supervisor and left him a voice message. He didn't say exactly what they said, just that he received a voicemail today from a legal entity wanting information about my employment. He then said it didn't sound like they had good intentions and didn't return the call.

I did tell him my information was compromised and that it was a scam, however, what purpose does it serve to phone my employer? Especially if they have no intentions of actually suing anyone leaving damning voice mails that show their illegal practices. . . wth do they have a good rating with the BBB?

The BBB says A+ rating but they are not accredited. I found they were fined from looking at the BBB.

I haven't heard from them since Wednesday morning when they called my cell and then my supervisor. I did file a report with the FTC, and told them I was going to. That wouldn't have stopped them, though. I found their email thanks to cb, and did email them that they needed to send me a dunning letter and could not contact anyone but me and could only do so through email. I didn't expect it to actually work, though? I only asked for the letter b/c they never mentioned who their client was in any voice mail. They just said, "client". Regardless, it's about an illegal payday loan but I'm a bit stumped that they haven't kept calling. I'm not complaining mind you. . .

I hope so. I'm just shocked. I kept expecting to have message after message from them, only to have them stop after two days. Fine with me, just found it strange. Just call me paranoid. :)

Maybe not. They don't have proof of the debt most likely and by you asking could stop them for a while. They probably will either start calling again or you may get calls from another scum of the earth place.
Just enjoy the silence!

Although this is definitely not the most professional way to handle it, I find that calling them back and being either verbally abusive or just pranking them gets them to go away.

I once called one of these companies telling them I was Brett Favre looking to get their personal cell phone numbers so I could send some pictures. Did it 3 times, they haven't call since. :)
