I received a call today from an unknown number, however, they left a message. The man's name was Vince Chambers and he said he was calling from NCS Offices. He said he received two formal complaints on me. One was for breach of contract and one was for attempt to defraud a financial institution. He told me that I was to call this number (877-239-1893) within 2 hours with my case # or I would be served papers. I am not sure if this is a scam or what, but I am worried. Please advise me on how to proceed.

this is a grade a number one scam.report his ass asap.nothing he stated will happen.again a scam report his ass.

They also called my brother at home. What do I tell people to say?
How do I find out the Department of Financial Regulation for MD?

Nothing - you are a victim of fraud.. you or your family should not talk to them at all, if can block their number. if they will give you a physical address or fax number send them a C&D..

I filed a complaint with the FTC and contacted the Department of Financial Regulation for MD. Should I also contact BBB?
In order to get an address I will need to contact them. Do you advise that?

No, only if one of you actually talks to them, which will not be pleasant, Just let your family know you have been a victim of fraud and not to give out any personal information.

Possibly who ever you used as references, let them all know you have been a victim of fraud. Report them to the FTC. and if you can block their number.

Hmm...I don't recall using my brother as a reference. I didn't want my family involved. I reported them to the FTC and have blocked the number on my phone.

Those sneaky scumbags. I don't like that they are calling me, but I am annoyed they are calling my work and family.

I am not sure which lender this is for, but can I expect more calls from other scumbags for the other loans?

It is not illegal for them to call you at work or to call your family, even if you didnt list them as reference...so that is a wasted complaint. YOU need to figure out WHO they are collecting or send them a cease and desist for the activity that is illegal.

So it may not be illegal to call me at work, but is it legal to threaten legal action? In order to find out who is calling I would need to speak to them. I don't answer unknown numbers and was advised my another member not to call. So I'm not sure how I get this information. If I send a cease and desist, what do I say?

So I decided to call today after receiving another call on my phone and at work. Of course Mr.Chambers wasn't there, so someone else helped me. I did find out some information. This is for the loan with Action Payday. I actually overpaid them by $35. The letter he e-mailed me (since he said they only use e-mail) stated I owed $1015. I was told I had two options, pay it today or if I didn't then legal action would be taken. I asked for their address (so I can send a cease and desist) and after being put on hold I was told they only use e-mail. He told me to get back to him as soon as possible since this claim could only be put on hold temporarily.

Now what??

total BS. Another scare tatic. I would just simply ignore. If the calls persist, contact the Md Commission and report to the FTC.

I actually had to stop myself from laughing when I was on the phone. They don't realize I know this is a bunch of crap.

I still haven't heard from Md Commissioner.

If you tell them to not call you at work and then they continue - that is illegal - report them to the FTC if they continue to call you at work.

And if you do ever take any of their calls ask for mailing information - or just block their numbers.

I told them not to contact me at work or contact anyone else (i.e. friends or family members). No calls today :)

Okay, so an update on the situation. Today I received a call from another person who said that there were claims against me for writing bad checks. This person also contacted my roommate's boyfriend and her former roommate (no clue how he got these numbers) as well as my boss. I explained it's a scam, but now I found out they also contacted my complany's HR department. I stupidly called the number they left (which happened to be NCS). I was told I could settle for $615 today or they would proceed further. I said I wasn't paying, so he said he wished me good luck.
I have contacted the Md Commissioner and the FTC and nothing. At this point I'm about to just pay it so they will stop harrassing me. Any suggestions??

You need to make sure your HR/Payroll department know that you have been a victim of Fraud.. you need to provide them copies of the wage assignment cancellations you sent. What did they send to the HR department?

i'm guessing they just called as only an original lender can submit a wage assignment.a bottomfeeder might fax a verification form, but i have never heard of a bottomfeeder sending a wage assignment.

Also do not give up on the MD Commission. Believe me, they are definitely working hard for us even though it does not seem that they are doing anything!!

I didn't speak to HR, my Principal did. They both told the person that he cannot serve me papers at school. I don't believe that anyone sent anything to them.

What are the wage assignment cancellations?

Thanks Bingonut, it's just frustrating when I have called and e-mailed and gotten no response.

I just want the calls to end!!!

saying you are going to serve someone at a school is as low as it gets.really pathetic.i would have the principle, and anybody else called file a police report, and then start hanging up on them without a word.they will tire of hearing the click eventually.that is the only way to stop them is to not give them a word, and ignore any messages.

So you suggest I file a police report? My roommate said I should, but I don't know what they can do.

So I called and after being asked if I owed them money (I said no since I overpaid) I was told that I should call and speak to a manager to find out what is going on. I was also told if the calls continue I should call the phone company and have the number blocked.

you do not call them.any manager will just as bad as the humanoids calling.in some cases they are worse.calling them will only get you more calls.you can block the number, but if their number is spoofed,or blocked that might be tricky.btw it is not the police's concern.they are breaking the law with threats they won't carry out.

I am not planning on calling them and don't answer calls from unknown numbers. The number is spoofed, so not sure if I can block it.
