Someone delivered a summons to my husband asking use to reply within 10 days. The debt they are suing for was a Payday loan we defaulted on in 2010. I'm not sure where to go from here or even if it's legitimate. It reads (in part):

"You are hereby summoned and required to file with the clerk of the above-mentioned Court, located at 8080 REDWOOD RD STE 1701, WEST JORDAN, UT 84088, an answer in writing to a Complaint to be filed in the above-titled case, and to serve upon, or to mail to, Plaintiff's Attorney, a copy of said answer within twenty (20) days of this service upon you."

I'm scared and don't know what to do. Can anyone offer some insight? Thank you in advance.

Find out through your husband who provided the loan and what state was he a resident of when he took out the loan. Without this information i don't see how you can expect us to give you any help, let alone advice

What loan company is suing you? That is what we first need to know. But responding within 20 days is pretty standard for a court summons. And I'm guessing that is a good address for your local court?

the OP stated that whoever served that said they had ten days.which is wrong.also the summons should have had the plaintiff on the summons.so something doesn't smell right to me without a case number, and the plaintiff.first the OP should check that court clerks website as if there is a case number check to see if it's real.however the non-descript post with no real info is fishy to me.amybody can look up that court address so i want the OP to give us the plaintiff, and the case number.

Rereading the OP it says answer in 10 days and 20 days toward the bottom. A case number or for that matter just calling the court is all one needs to do to see if it's legitimate. But I agree something doesn't seem right at all.

the OP never gave any real info.no case number,no plaintiff.plus no further response either.i have a suspicion about this, but will reserve judgement for now.

See if your court system has a website for cases and if they do, enter your name and the current year. If this case is on the level, it should pop up. If not, then I would send up another red flag.

this was a bunch of bullsquirt.if the OP was genuine they would have provided a case number, and the lawyer,or law firm filing the suit.at least the name of the pdl.typical plant humanoid thread meant to sway people when a bottomfeeder calls and threatens a lawsuit they should give it credibility.i could have typed up the part of th summons the OP did.again just another idiot posting a plant thread.
