We (me and my husband) had a joint credit card which we defaulted. However, my credit score is better than him. if we cancel this credit card, will my credit score remain intact? We have decided to take out themortagge loan in my name so that his credit score doesn't affect.

Is this credit card new or old? If it's an old credit card, it will hurt your credit score since the entire payment history will be lost.

Do you have only this credit card or you have several other cards? As SC said, it's ok to close a newer credit card that you no longer use. There are several factors you need to consider before closing a credit card you know.
But if you still want to close it, send a written notice to to the card issuer. You can call first to cancel your account, but always follow up with a letter confirming your desire to have the credit card closed.
