Ok if you have a phone with a intercom button this works great but you can still do it without one...Ok....
1. If the caller calls and asks for you. Say please hold. Push the Intercom button..
2. Now the tone has changed and they can notice the change in speaking...Tell them they are being recorded for Better Business B. Or Federal Commissions Dept and ask them to state their Name and Business in Calling...
3. They usually hang up they do not want to be recorded...

each time I have done this..They say..Mr._____. I did not give you persmission to record me...I then say ..Well you recorded me for quility assurance. and you did call me..So therefore I do have that right.. Also I did not give you persmission to call me either.. Either you chat being recorded or you have the choice in hanging up and they do...It works They do not call as much and when they do I just do it all again.....

No sweat, I think I was the misleader. You were opening up the subject of how our elders just can't make it on social security alone, and I opened up the "paranoid waffle" subject. Two completely different things.
From what I remember about debtors I had talked to who were living solely on social security, it is a mere pittance, which tells me that it's meant to be supplemental, not substitutional. I never thought much of it anyway, I mean, the $255 death benefit is crap, and social security disability allowances are crap too.
Too many employers fail to avail a retirement plan and people like your grandfolks end up with nothing to show for all their years of hard work. Another reason why the government needs an enema.

he is beyond an embarrassment. Here is an idea for u on the student loans.. if you know what your payments will be and can do so, start putting that amount away in the bank now, them when u start paying you can do two things 1) put down a large chunk if you wish, and your payments will not feel liek another expense to it wont be as har dto adjust. another thing you could do is keep the savings you haev until payments are due, and just make the payments, under the idea that they loans are pretty cheap money , then whenever you can pay extra each month against the principal.

Yes. Lets all rely on the government and our employer to pay for us when we are old. It's our employers responsibility to plan for our retirement. It's our employers responsibility to provide retirement programs like 401k's and IRA's. Lets bash the president. WOW....HAHAHAHA was right this forum is full of a bunch of people that expect others to take care of them and protect them from their responsibilities. I do not agree with alot of what HAHA said, but when I hear people bash OUR president it makes my stomach turn. Im sure that Clinton would have dont better. EH? Making a name of the plans Reagan had put into place 16 yrs before Clinton took office. Bush defends us, Clinton sleeps with a cow and who gets bashed. Well maybe if Bush went around kissing the minorities ass's a bit more he would not be ridiculed by the liberal's as much.

I won't be a rude as "Are you kidding", but I don't believe that bashing the President serves this forum. I don't believe he created or solved the problems with Social Security. I do believe we need to be responsible with our futures because Social Security will not provide us with enough to live on. I saw one study that said one of the biggest problems for this generation when they retire is that too many people cash out their retirement funds for a quick fix of bill problems. This makes it less likely that they will have enough to live on when they retire. By the way, my parents are in the 70s, both worked at the same place all there lives so they would have a good retirement. All our lives my parents have told us kids to save for retirment because SS won't support us. Just throwing in my 2 cents.

Kathryn and Are You Kidding, do not step on my toes! I have never suggested that letting the government take care of us is the answer, I was the one who in fact suggested that social security is supplemental and not to be solely relied on. And I was not "bashing" the prez. It is true, Europe has dubbed him the stupid president! I didn't make that up! And being a pro-choice feminist, I don't like what he's doing to reproductive rights. If you would read some of my other topics, you will see that i am really disgusted with all these unmarried women living off our backs because she can't stay off hers! I may have some liberal views regarding women's rights, but as far as welfare goes, I am quite against it!

Ari,

Thank you for clearing that up. I did not mean to offend you. I do not care what Europe says about us, and I am not sure anyone else should either. I think the best thing the U.S. can do for itself is become an isolationist country. Fix our internal problems instead of offering aid to all of the poor pitiful 3rd world countries around the world.

Ari,

I can see I stepped on your toes. I certainly did not intend to say you were suggesting anything about the government taking care of us or about welfare. I do think you were critizing the president (maybe bashing was a bad choice of words). I do believe that this president did not screw up social security nor did he fix it, but neither did the last couple of presidents.

Also, the statements about being responsible with our futures had nothing to do with any statement you or anyone else had made. It was simply a statement I was making because of the study I had seen about people taking their retirment money early.

The statement about my parents wasn't intended to critize anyone else. I was just stating what my parents tried to beat into their 6 kids heads about having enough money to retire some day.

Forgive me for my outburst, you guys! Whew! This has been one tough topic!

I've heard the exact same things from my father; tighten my belt, do not accrue new debts, plan for the future, and invest, invest, invest. It used to drive me nuts to hear people complain that they were living below the poverty level and that this is not the land of the free or the home of the brave. It irritated me so much because there are people in Iraq younger than me fighting and dying so that people like the person who said that can put on a poor me act when they are still physically capable of working and making it in life.

Quite frankly, I am upset with what the prez is up to and I don't think that many of his acts are done with the best interest of the economy at heart. Going back to my stance on abortion, what it is to me is the prevention of child abuse, neglect, and babies born with AIDS or chemical dependencies. It is not baby-killing, it is keeping babies out of the hands of dreadfully unfit parents. Adoption is not a deterrent of that either, so I don't want any pro-lifers here offering up that because I don't want to hear it. Abusers and preverts often miss the radar of DSS.

I understand Bush's stance on welfare and social security perfectly. It's supplemental for the very needy while they work, people should earn their keep no matter what. But this whole illegalizing abortion and cutting off assistance in nonsensical. In this arena, you just can't have it both ways, it won't work!

Ok, I'm rambling on here. I think we've fully leveled with each other now! :)

Ari

I respect your confictions. I am a 49 year old Bible belt Baptist with 2 adopted sons (could not have kids of my own & spent 9 years trying to adopt), so you can see we may have different views of things.

I really appreciate the good you do on this site and can see you are a person that cares about people.

This is a prime example of why people don't discuss politics or religion.

Sincerely
Kathryn

Guys, I was serious when i thought the Dodgers were a football team! Whoopsie!

Kathryn, I get you now, I'll end this debate now. I just get so carried away sometimes. I live in the bible belt now as you can see, and I really find the purity and courteousness of all the resident Christians, even the young people at Pensacola Christian College very refreshing as opposed to all the crude, obnoxious me-people in New England.

Howsabout you join us full time? Lending your views could help give many of the members some direction!

Yes, I wonder about that myself. Whatever happened to the search for Bin Laden? Last I heard he wasn't in Iraq...not that I would know any differently, it just looks like the whole thing is on a different track. Getting rid of the taliban was an excellent start, you have to credit him for that, but why veer off course and into Iraq? Even after Houssein's arrest?

Oh Hi Toni!! I know exactly where Eureka Springs is. Hubby is a truck driver and I have been through there with him many times! wow, small world. I live in memphis, but I guess you knew that already. howdy neighbor! I was born and raised in Georgia (go Atlanta braves and georgia bulldogs!), ended up here in memphis cause of hubby being in the military when it came time to retire.

Eureka is a pretty neat little town. I just wish all the Yankees wouldn't retire down here and then decide all of us poor Arkies are too stupid to take care of ourselves. Then they just have to run for office. Bah!

Sorry. We have a guy from up north who has lived here a couple years and decided he should be sheriff.

Virginia-Legal-Defense,

That's an excellent suggestion. People must also be aware that some collectors are not beyond "spoofing" a caller ID number. If they have your cell phone number for example, they'll spoof your home number to get you to answer, and visa versa. This is very easily done, various websites sell cards to do this as well (to spoof any number you wish on a caller ID). --And, believe it or not, it seems to be legal.

Toni

I know what you mean. I believ many people are supprised we aren't all married to our cousins. There are 6 kids in my family, 4 have degrees, 1 is a fireman and 1 is a stay at home granny babysitting grandkids. We were all born here and except for my oldest brother (electrical engineer) who lives in Houston, we all still live here. I love this place, but it sure is growing (which I don't like)

I just found this site and WOW!!! Talk about passionate, lol...seriously, I am glad I found this, it will help. As a military man for over 22 years, I have gotten into my share of problems and only recently met the rude/vulgar collectors. Extremely hard to deal with, especially when I am deployed so much. Not using that as an excuse, but when you get to the deployed site, you usually don't get mail or phone calls for at least a month...not much you can do from the other side of the world. And having been ripped off by some collectors before (No, Mr. Smith, we will only remove $100 a month from your account...only to find out that they took the ENTIRE PAYCHECK!!!) I don't do the check by phone, post dated check or allotment anymore (except for my landlord). And most of the time, my commander has backed me up, after these rude/vulgar "individuals" called him and started in on him, lol. As for political discussions, here is my military view; "I may not like what you have to say and I may not agree with what you have to say; but I will defend with my life your right to say it." And on that I thank all that have posted information versus opinions.

slayerofdragons,

Members of this forum are fighting against the unfair means of debt collection. People here always try to pay their debts. If you visit the forum, you will feel the happiness of getting another account paid in full.

We have few collectors with us, who were very good and ethical with their profession and tried to help debtors always. If you join this forum, you will get immense support from the members and can interact with others through PM as well. Keep us posted.

Slayerofdragons,

Welcome to the forums, it's great to have you here. You really hit the nail on the head describing this forum as passionate! I admit, I can hit the roof when someone poking around here is so wrong it's scary.

I suggest cutting yourself off completely from these foulmouthed and theiving collectors, contact an attorney to bar them from tapping into your account any further. If you are still in the military, finding an affordable lawyer shouldn't be difficult. Finally, look into settling with the original creditor. They should understand that since your collectors operate unlawfully, you can't trust them and you shouldn't.

Good luck with all this,

Ari
