Can a garnishee be applied to a Severance Settlement

I am receiving a Severance settlement my employer advised the collection process thtIwas employed then three days later I was laid off. I am 60 years of age it is doubtful I will be employed again. I am now receiving a severance payout can this be garnisheed?
Are you getting a lump-sum
Are you getting a lump-sum (one-time) payment, or checks over time? Do you owe back taxes, child support, etc? Have you had any judgements go against you in court?
