You need to talk with your telephone company regarding this. If you have caller ID, maybe it's the brand you have that will display 999-999-9999 as an unknown call. Reading over your manual will tell you this. If it's suppose to display Unknown Caller, then this is an issue with the actual service provided by your phone company. They may be able to fix the problem, if it's something that should be getting displayed.

My favorite is "No Data" and you'll actually hear voices, and then someone hangs up.

Jessi
No date usually means you picked up the phone too quickly, or the cords are about to come out.
Also, having done telemarketing, same goes on the other end. Screen on their end won't pop up, and the earbud of the telephone headset is letting us know there is a call on the end with a beep. So you hear constant chatter.

It is not the caller ID, these are generally telemarketing calls, they have the capability of blocking their number to show up like that. Auto-dialers usually...sometimes these are collectors. They do the auto-dialing and are usually not on the line, because the purpose of the call is to figure out the times that you answer, so they can estimate a time for a real person to call you back. Best thing to do is let the answering machine pick it up when it displays that number. Defeats the purpose of their calls.
Unknown Caller
Hey, I get Unknown Caller all the time, several times a week, and when I answer the phone, dead air.
Unknown Caller is on the screen.

AT&T offers a pivacy feature. If "unknown", "private" or what ever is sent through, your phone doesn't ring, but the call is routed to the service. The caller is asked to push a few buttons and state their name if they wish the call to go through.

I get those 000-000-0000 calls all the time. I have tried that feature Law student talks about but when it lists their number as 000-000-0000 they somehow still come through. I have just been letting voice mail pick them up. I figure if it is important they will leave a message. They never do. They only thing that worries me is if I am missing a call that is actually important. I figure though it is Midland cause they just bought my case from providian in Nov. and it was the same month I moved. Now that they have my number the phone rings 3-4 times a days with unknown caller.
I think that iblocking their number is a violation of the fdcpa.

I think you could make an argument that blocking caller ID constitutes deception, which would ba an fdcpa violation. I'd be very interested to hear what our resident attorneys think on this.
Well if it is a violation then they are violating quite often.

I dunno if it'd be a very good argument, but I think you could definitely make an argument of it. I'm really hoping that LawStudent of one of the others will chime in on this.
