In the reports from three of the credit bureaus, or in any the reports? Are they reported as zero balance? Your credit card debts were discharged in bankruptcy, but I'm not sure if that closes the accounts or not. You also may like to contact your credit card issuers and inquire if you have to perform some formalities.

If you are sure that accounts were closed, then you should go with what Tammy has suggested. You can get these errors removed by disputing with credit bureaus. Keep us posted.

I have received a 1099 statement of discahrged debt on a credit card. Will I have to pay tax on the amount? How do I go about taking care of this with the IRS? What is the amending procedure to follow?

I have already sent in our income tax forms last month. I just recently received the 1099, and I don't know what to do.

Paul, it will be better to consult your tax attorney for this purpose. After the debt is discharged in the bankruptcy, you won't be required to pay the taxes because you filed for bankruptcy in the first place. Your lawyer will review the tax papers and suggest you the right move. He will try to rectify the mistake made by your creditors and the update will be seen in your credit report if it has been hurt.
