I was wondering if anyone on the forums has a commerce bank checkings account and are dealing with payday loans. I tried closing my account down last week but somehow it stayed open and all the debits went through making my account negative. I was wondering if anyone went through the same thing and was able to dispute it. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I have already tried contacting them, they said the debits went through because they were already authorized. Maybe ill try going in and disputing the charges and saying they werent authorized, and once i get a statement from T&C showing they made payments to them, I can use that as evidence. Not really sure what else I can do, I just want to close the account down so it doesnt keep accumalating NSF fees.

I would recommend contacting a manager at your financial institution, and explain to them that no more authorized/unauthorized charges can come through. Most financial institutions will ask you what check numbers do you want to allow to "pass" through. All the others will be sent back "account closed".

Unforuntately, chances are you won't get any money back, and will still be charged the NSF's.

Mike

I will be giving them a call later on and hopefully goin in person tommorow to see what can be done. I alreayd opened up an account at another bank just in case i cant get anything done with my commerce account. what will happen if they dont allow me to close the account and it keeps going more and more negative? do they turn it over to a collection agency. i would like to take care of it now before it gets too far.

The account should already be closed. Going in person would probably be a better idea, so you can explain it to the manager.

Usually there is a "close process" that most financial institutions will make you go through. They'll want to know why you're leaving, and etc.

They should also ask you what pending checks you might have come through. This will be the time to explain to them that you're wanting nothing to pass, including ACH's.

If you feel uneasy about what happen later, ask for the manager to give you a print out proving the account is offically closed and nothing can come through.

Mike

An update with my bank account. I finally got my bank to stop all withdrawals from my account and make it deposit only. My account is in negative 70 right now. I plan to take care of that as soon as I can so that I can close that account down completely. Im just waiting until friday to see if they actualy did black all withdrawal attempts. I am hoping they have. I am working with T&C now and cant afford to have more nsf fees added to my bank account. Thanks for the help everyone
