this company i have found out is in jaksonville fl their # is 1-800-201-0565 has anyone ever dealt with them they threatened to send me to jail tomorrow if i don't come up with 534 dollars for a payday loan. this was a walk in company any info would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Don't get scared. No company can send you to jail for not paying the debt. I will have to do some research on this company and know if they are a CA or a payday loan lender. I will let you know in some time.

There are no debt prisons for being in defaults. Take your stronger side and write a letter to this company to itemize this debt. This is the most important legal move from your side and you will have proof of your actions taken. Samples of debt validation letter are available in this forum. Send it through certified mail with return receipt requested.

After the company has received your letter, they can't take any actions against you until the details have been put in papers. Even if the matter is taken to the court, you can also prove to the judge that you wanted to know the details but the company failed to produce them. Seeing this, the judge will always make decisions in your favor.

The fact that they are from Jacksonvill, FL (not to mention the threat for jailtime) makes me think it is Ellis Crosby/Prelitigation/United Federal Bank. Maybe you can research it a bit more, David? :)

Lsweet, are you sure of the name of the company? Could it have been Prelitigation?

I got that same phone call yesterday from them. I was stressing so much over it. Mine was also from a walk in company. What is the letter I send to them?

Dori,

You have to send them debt validation letter.

Add one paragraph in the letter stating not to call you any more. Tell them that you would prefer to be contacted through mails only. Send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. If they still continue calling you after receiving this letter, you can file complaint against them.

Also mention that you are not denying to pay, but you want to see some paperwork at first. Keep us posted.

Hello,
Can you please tell me where you sent the letter to? I would like to also write a letter to this 800-201-0565 comopany but don't know anything about the company itself. Can someone also tell me what I might have signed up through? I'm thinking this might be Cash Transfer Center or Money Tree?
Thanks

Just remember, some of us have signed contracts, while others don't. Some companies do not have licenses to offer their services in some states. You should learn!

Yes! I just got a phone call from the same company, threatening to send me to jail tomorrow, too, if I don't come up with the money by 5pm this afternoon. Ignore jerk companies like this, who use illegal scare tactics on people.

I also got the call... from this company but instead of calling me directly they called my sister and said that I need to call them directly or have my attorney call them. I am a debt collector so I have a bit of an inside help on this. Tell them in writing that u want them to cease and desist all phone calls and only send correspondence via mail. They will be breaking the law if they do not abide by that. The fact that angers me is that i never received any correspondence from them to begin with nor any phone calls but they had the nerve to call my family members about it

Early in the year I took out a payday loan with Ace Cash Express (bad idea, I know, and I realize there were other options now). Total for the loan was 1000.00 + 200.00 finance charges. In the typical payday loan fashion, I found myself paying 200 a check with no chance of paying it all back. I just recieved a phone call from Legal Mediation Practice stating that if I didn't pay the full amount before 5pm tonight, it was going to go to the local courts for "locate and address". Does anyone know what that means.

Hi Johan

Legal Mediation practice must validate the debt in writing before they take any legal actions against you. Did you get any information in writing about this account from Legal Mediation Practice? I wonder if they are just using one of their scare tactics. Send a DV letter from your side and force them to send out the account details

This company is currently calling me and will not tell me who they are or what company they represent unless I confirm my identity.. I asked if they were a collector on a bill, a law firm, or what and they said "no we aren't collecting" and they wouldn't tell me what they wanted or who they were. I told them they need to tell me who they are and what they want before I confirm my identity but they said something to the extent of they can't do that, I told them that was bull and they told me not to swear and that they weren't a child I kindly explained that I wasn't a child either and they need not threaten me but only explain who they are and what they want in order to speak with me. They continue on their path of undetermined defiance of being butt heads and I hung up.
Same number though 1-800-201-0565 sounded like a made up name on the extention which was ext#294. real nice people I think they are trying to collect for a check cashing place I never paid money back to, because i lost my job. the companys name is legal mediation practice.

I got a VM on my cell phone. " This message is for _______ it is imparitive to call me at your earliest convance, my firm is Legal Mediation and I need to speak to you please call 800-201-0565."
That was it on my end. I took out a loan awhile back and I have to pay it back sooner or later. But the guy was extreemly rude and I read my contract and talked to a lawyer and he said that no walk in loan company can throw you in jail. It would mean that half of america would be in jail by now. debt collectors will try anything.

So, I will let you know what happens thanks guys for the infor on this blog.

They called my mom and told her I was going to jail if I didn't call them immediately. I called them and they gave me all this legal mumbo jumbo. I asked what that meant and he said I live in Austin and should know what that means. They were rude and unhelpfull. I made several attempts at payment plans only to be told they wouldn't count.

Listen, i'm almost embarrassed to say, but i used to work for this company legal mediation practice @ 1919 blanding blvd jacksonville florida 32210. Ph# 18002010565. I am sorry if i was ever the person who called you. Listen, yes it needs to be paid back, but only because it will go on your credit. Not because you will go to jail. That is just how they collect. The moto is imply don't lie. They probably said something along the lines of you have until 3 pm today to have the money in here or we will recommend for the fullest action to be taken against you. They say u r back up by a check, but it's not like you wrote a bad check. I am telling you you can not be put in jail for this. What you all need to do is report them for violation of fdcpa law. They do not read the mini maranda. This is an attempt to collect a debt any information obtained will be used for that purpose. Also this call may be recorded. Did u hear that?? More than likely not. We were told we would get in trouble for stating it was a debt. We were told to say it is against the law to write a check, yes it is, but that isn't what you did. Its a payday loan, the company took chances by loaning money to you. Nothing will come of it. Again sorry if i was ever the one to call you. Good luck all. Btw, just start sending them payments. As long as they receive 10-50 dollar payments there is nothing they can do. They can't even send it back to ace, allied, or where ever it came from!

I also received a call from these people and looked them up with the bbb, they are actually a collections company. I have also done research on the internet and found out that the creditor can file civil charges against you, but not criminal and that it is against the law for them to threaten you with jail. I am contacting my attorney tomorrow! They have called several people I know and have given out more info than they should!!!

I defaulted on my loan with Ace Cash Express. I switched jobs in February and my paychecks were messeed up there for a while. I got behind on bills and incurred late fees. This resulted in defaulting on the ACE loan. I keep receiving calls from the office in Dallas that I need to pay immediatly or "action" will be taken. I have every intention of paying the loan back. Ace has tried to cash the check many times which has overdrawn my account and was eventually closed. I just need some advise as to what I can expect to happen if I don't pay immediately. I really appreciate any advise you can give. Thanks.

I will be "dealt with at my place of work today." what does that mean and what should i do? I don't have this amount to pay them righ now. I asked if i could pay in installments or have an extension, they said no!. They said they would put down i "refuse to pay!" can you face jail time with payday cash loans (quik cash)? This company is in missouri and i now live in california, do i have rights???

All debt collection agencies need to follow the FDCPA laws. Be informed of your rights and how to deal with the collectors. Read the FDCPA. Make the legal move by sending the DV letter. You must have the details of the debt in writing from the CA so that it is known that they are doing legit collections. They are using scary tactics by not following the laws and get your money. Send the DV letter through certified mail with return receipt requested for having a proof. They won't take you to the court as they are not following the laws.

Got a call from these turds today. They said verifying the debt was not an option at this point when I told them I wanted to see proof of the debt.

They tried the "talk to your attorney" bit and implied they were taking legal action, trying to make it seem valid with a "case number" i was forced to write down.

The rep also said they would be sending someone to my house.

When i asked for the address, they knew i was going to send a cease and desist letter, so they hung up on me.

Then i called the number on my phone and got the same rep answering. When i asked for the address he said "Why?!" I told him i was sending a letter. It was like you were asking him for his personal address or something! These guys will do anything to see if you know the law! Don't fall for their bullshit! Finally, he gave me the address. And now here I am...complaining like the rest of the people who have been harassed by Legal Mediation Practice.

I am sending a cease and desist letter certified mail on monday morning! :D

This company is a Collection Agency for a Pay Day Loan Company.
The Caller or collector on the phone insinuates and acts as if he were a Commisioned Law Enforcement Officer. He say's intimidating things such as a Case has been filed against you. He makes leading remarks such as He and his department will press crinmal charges against you for oweing the money. His Name is Jack Bowen. :x
Basicly the representives of this company act as if they could send someone to jail and they make intiidating statements that closely represent them and their company as a Lawenforment Agency..which is CLearly against the Law.
The Economic Crimes Divison of the Florida Attorney Generals Office know of the misleading and illegal collection practices that these people are doing.
