I applied for and got this cc that was already 300.00 balance and when i tried to cancel they told me i couldnt until i paid off the cc and i never even used it??? anyone else seen this same kind off ripoff?

Which card are you talking about?

Did you activate the card before you tried to cancel? That could be the problem. You'll want to check with the agreement, too to see what the cancellation policy was.

If you didn't activate it, I don't see why they can't cancel it.

Yes. I have. I have a low credit score that I am working my BUTT off to fix. I get at least a couple of these offers each week. I throw them all away. In the fine print terms of these so-called "helpers" it explains they are going to charge you $29 for this, $99 for that, $49 fee, etc. Throw them all away.

To help your credit, it is best to find a bank (credit unions are good) that will give you a secured credit card. In these instances, you put up the money. For ex., if you give them $300 to hold, they will give you a credit card for $300. It works like a Simon gift card (gift VISA) only a secured CC is reported to the bureaus... so by making timely payments on it, you build a good credit history. Just don't max it out... try to stay under 50% of your limit. Often times, after a year or so of successful payments, the bank will give you an unsecured credit card.

On another note, I think it was Premier bank... not sure. This was before I got wise on those cards. I signed up for their "credit rebuilding" cards. However, when I got the card and saw the charges and read closer, I called them and told them I was cutting it up and not paying them a dime. They cancelled the card and reversed all charges.

It seems that khris applied for the card and got it approved with $300 balance in the account. If khris has already activated the card, that does not justify $300 balance because the card has not been used at all.

Khris check the papers of agreement, is there any such condition that you have to pay this amount once the card is approved? Keep us posted.

I HAD a card like this through Total Visa, but I never activated it, so they closed out my account completely, and it never made it to my credit report.

Maybe they can set up a smaller payment arrangement for you, and then you can close it out, or use it as you once intended to rebuild your credit.
