Could you try making a list of the possible places you may have gotten the money order and try to narrow it down. By doing this you may even remember exactly where it came from. At the very least it would give you a beginning to start with on trying to track down where it originally was purchased.
Things may seem dire at times but they are never hopeless. The worst thing to do is decide anything while emotionally influenced. Give yourself a little time to calm down and catch your breath and proceed slowly. I know it is easy to say this and sometimes difficult to do but it is worth the effort to approach it clearly.
And of course like you see in a lot of these posts make them validate the debt thus also giving you some time to deal with the problem

gosh khrisangel--I hear your pain! But without proof that you paid this debt, I don't think theres anything else you can do. I've been scratching my head trying to think of another way. But since it was a money order and not with a check out of your bank account, and you lost the stub, I'm not sure theres anything you can do. You lost your proof. Heres what I would do, slow down---calm down and continue to look for that stub. Because you know how these things work, about the time you pay this debt AGAIN and have it paid off, the stub will turn up. Things have a way of doing this. so make sure you look good before throwing in the towel of having to repay this debt again. (although I'm wondering if the stub shows up later on, if you could still use it to prove you paid and get your repayment back)
Also, this is why its sooo important to hang on to every single peice of paper concerning a debt. I have a small filing cabinet next to my desk that has a folder in it for every debt I have. Everytime I send a letter off certified return receipt--the letter and receipts get filed. Everytime I get something in the mail, it gets filed. money order receipts and copies of clear checks get filed. I've learned this since joining the group. I suggest you get yourself some type of filing system so that you can FILE everything. Because like in this case, you never NEVER know when sometime down the road, someone is going to say you didn't pay and you'll need your proof to back up that you did. keep us posted. I really feel bad for you and I hope it turns up!!! shirley

That's the main prob. with money orders--If something goes goofy, it's very hard to track. Even with the stub, it usually costs around $10 to trace and takes about 30 days. Yuck.
Look EVERYWHERE you can think of for that stub, because that's going to be the only way you can trace it. Most places don't keep track of their money order transactions when you buy them, so it's hard to get a copy.

right, and even then, when you buy a money order at the local gas and go or whatevers, they don't take your name down or document you with the money order you bought. So theres no way of tracking you with having bought that money order except for the stub itself.
HEY BRAINSTORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Khrisangel---did you purchase your money order at your bank THROUGH your bank account???????? oh my God, there might be hope if you did. At my credit union, you can go in and purchase a money order and have them take it out of your account and also charge your account the $3 for the money order. I'm almost certain with it being a credit union, they have proof and the number of the money order in their computer. I hope this is what you did...if it is, there might be hope!!!!!

I used to assitant manage at a convience store and worked for several others and it was never easy for someone to get proof of thier moneyorder but it used to not be impossible if you were will to put in some time and patience. Of course things may have changed since I have not been around that line of work in about 10 years but we were always able to provide a phone number to the money order company that people could check with it. I know some people had luck during those times.
Thus my suggestion of trying to make a list of where you may have purchased it at could hopefully jog a memory.
And like Shirely said save everything. I to have learned the hard way. In fact these days I try to transcribe conversations as I have them or as soon as I am done and save them so I can refer back to if need be.

If the provider is a non-contracting provider then generally the payments are sent to the member since there is no contract with the provider and the insurance company.
Are you being billed for the amount that you paid? Or was there a deductible, coinsurance, or charges over the allowed amount (if a non-ppo provider was used). Im just trying to figure out if maybe there was additional fees that wasn't included in the check the insurance company sent you.

Do you remember if you had to buy more than one money order, most small chains will only sell money orders for $500 or less,so if you got one money order for $1800 maybe you did go to the bank.I wish you luck,I never use money orders, for this reason, its best to send a certified check with such a large amount.Keep looking, maybe even call the doctors office, its sad to say,but maybe there was someone dishonest, working at the doctors office at that time.

I like to write a check or get a certified check so it can be traced easier just in case.

thank God that I learned from this group to hang on to stuff. Right after I joined I had an incident with a collection agency (for wells fargo) where I mailed them two money orders and a check. Now Wells Fargo has taken back over the account and wrote me a letter. They said the collection agency is saying that they only received ONE money order and the check. I had the money order stub so I sat down and wrote them back and gave them the money order stub number and told them to investigate it. I'm not about to pay that money again when I have the proof that I already did it. I was already writing them letter complaining about this collection agency before this, which is why they took the account back. I sent them a letter with a proposal and the money order number, am waiting to hear back from them. Hang on to all your paper work folks. Even if you pay something off, you know from reading in the forums here, that they can come back later on, years down the line saying that you never paid.

Khrisangel, if you can remember where you got the money order it would be good to go to them to see if they can find it in their records and preint a copy of the reciept.
On the other hand, be careful in your dealings with Arrowhead. Ask anyone here, they blow the fdcpa out their butts.
