Just posted this previously before I registered as a member; wanted to repeat it under my new official member name. : )

I found this site through looking up "Contact midland credit management," who is one of the creditors (or collectors) in my fiance's credit report.

His ability, or willingness, to follow though on the tasks required to make the necessary investigation of these matters is dubious.

My question is, as a non-official family member, am I able to attempt to resolve these matters on my own (with his approval, of course). I am also a licensed CPA; does that make a difference?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi neferusobek~

Thanks for joining the forum!! Here, we can walk you through, step by step, with fixing your fiance's credit. Whatever questions come up, feel free to ask, chances are that one of us has been there before!!

As far as your current question is concerned, I have helped a few family members clear up credit report issues. I have written cease and desist letters for them, HIPAA letters, etc. I just explain the purpose of the letter and have them sign it. But I believe what you are asking is if you can act as his agent in these matters. For this, I have no answer, but somebody here will know the correct answer. Stand by and somebody will have an official answer, I'm sure!! Welcome to the forum :)

I have been working on my husbands report for months now. I know we're married but he's not into all of the work that occurs through trying to clean up. So I do all the work, research, letter writing, disputing, hair pulling--etc. for him under his name.
Now if you want to act as an agent, I would suspect you would have to have his power of attorney.
anyone else care to jump in here?? -shirley-

I also deal with my husband's financial stuff, but because I know his ss number ,married, etc. most of them deal with me. But my son is on disability and I have a heck of a time with some, they said I have to have power of attorney before they will discuss any business with me. If I only want ot make a payment, they will take it,but will not discuss any details with me. Hope this helps. Karen

neferusobek,

You might have some problem while dealing with third party collection agency. If the agency follows fdcpa (rare) they will not disclose financial obligation to a third person. However they can discuss about the debt of your spouse with you.

But if your fianc?? authorizes you to handle the account, then it is alright. You can consult an attorney for this. Keep us posted.
