Some payday loan settlement success!

Well, some positive news - I changed my bank account, signed up with AFS (T&C doesn't work in North Carolina). I took the advice learned from this site and was proactive in calling my payday loan creditors. Well, I called some, and some called me today since they just found out my account was closed. And it's amazing, they were all very accomodating and are willing to work with AFS. What a relief! Oh - of cousre there was the very scary call from the DREADED SONIC PAYDAY...but after all I read about them, I decided to pay them off directly. I asked them if I could make payments, of course said no, but they would give me a month to get the full amount together and pay them in April. I had to call my heating company and make a payment arrangement with THEM so I can get this Sonic bill paid, but since they are so agressive and pushy, I decided the sooner I get rid of them, the better.

Anyway, just wanted to share my story to let you know that there IS hope! And for the most part, everyone I spoke to today seemed to actually be human and were willing to work with me. As scary as these calls are, it's SO much better to face them head on and be proactive, and just talk to them. I've tried ignoring these types of calls in the past, but they don't go away, and just gave me stomach pains from the stress.

So anyway...looks like a light at the end of the tunnel...who knew??? And I've learned my payday loan lesson, for sure. No more! :wink:

Could you pm me with the info with AFS? I have some people who can't work with T &C either so I would like to pay this info along. I believe you did the right thing in being proactive. It's good that you are on the road to recovery and getting out the payday loan cycle. I had all kinds of problems with Sonic. They were a nightmare to deal with. It surprises me that they gave you an entire month to pay them off. I'm glad to hear it though :)
