Well, I talked with a counselor today and it went very well. I talked with Jack Coleman Law Offices for about 45 minutes and within minutes he was able to let me know what would happen as far as my debt and interest rates and terms. Apparently, being about $7000 in debt right now, would take about 36 years to pay off because of the high interest and finance charges. He said he could have me debt free in 36 months.

My question to you all is, have any of you heard of Coleman Law Offices? They are located in Deerfield Beach, FL. I would make payments via auto-debit each month.

They e-mailed me the paperwork, and I have to fill it out and then fax the signed paper work right over to there office.

So, has anyone heard of them? I am still kind of skeptical and hoping it is not a scam. He was awfully nice on the phone.

Thanks! :D

They are not a member of the BBB, so it is hard to say. I have not heard of them personally, but chances are that somebody here has. They have had 2 complaints that have both been resolved.

Are they offering debt consolidation, or debt settlement? There is a big difference and you have to decide which is right for you. Personally, I prefer consolidation so that your credit is not negatively affected as much.

Hi Zachman - the complaints were listed on the BBB website.

The Bureau processed a total of 2 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Both of those were closed in the last year.

Complaints Concerned
Guarantees or Warranty Issues: 1
Outcome of the complaint -
Resolved: 1

Refund or Exchange Issues: 1
Outcome of the complaint -
Resolved: 1

Please take the time to look into debt consolidation on this forum - in the long run you will probably be much happier taking that route. Settlement will negatively affect your credit report and score. Just my opinion, look into all your options!!

Thanks Mary. I am going to look into all my options. Actually, come to think of it, the Coleman Law Office is offering consolidation, rather than a settlement (I got confused). They are going to lump all the creditors of mine into one small monthly payment and work with my creditors on lower interest rates.

Hi - I was wondering about Coleman Law Offices myself. Within one hour of signing up on this forum, Jack Coleman was calling my cell phone with "urgent" msgs. He kept leaving msgs regarding getting my "high interest rate down on all those cards". He called about five or six times before I called him back. I was concerned mostly because I didn't have any credit cards with any problems - My problem was with a few PDL's.

Anyway, I asked him where he got my information from and all he could tell me is that they collect their information thru the internet. He didn't have anything more than my name, number and knew that I had recently signed up/inquired about something debt-related. He was HOPING I had some high-interest credit cards, so he left msgs to that effect.

I just had a horrible experience in the last week with them. For four months I have belonged to them and made my monthly payments religiously. BUT, they had one of my account numbers wrong, therefore never got the proposal to my credit company. BUT, they never attempted to contact me to resolve this issue, instead, my credit card accumulated $300 more in interest, late fees, and overlimit fees. My credit now had a 90 bad mark on it because of their stupidity. It has caused me to look at other ways of paying off my debt. I thought they were great too, until this happened. Pay close attention to your statements and make sure your balance is going down.

Let me just add also that the ultimate point that everyone seems to want to avoid is bankruptcy and yes, it does stay on your CR for a period of 10 years.

However--Debt Settlement and Consolidation is basically looked at in the same way as bankruptcy when you cut through all the mustard and bread covering it. BUT on a brighter note, your credit will only go negative while in the program and will quickly stablize at a much better score than you had before entering the program while making regular monthly payments on time in the future. Future creditors will overlook some negative marks with a good payment history of some sort. We will survive this together!!!! :D

~I know what some of you are thinking....Good Gawd, why on earth would you come out of debt settlement and go right back into debt~ Actually, I am not talking about credit cards or PDL's. I am basically referring to future homes and newer vehicles. I know that my truck will be paid off in 3 years, right when I get out of the program, and I will need a newer vehicle.

My parents bankrupted and got two new vehicles within 6 months of their bankruptcy by placing 1500.00 down, so that gives me hope and motivation that I am doing the right thing. Their bankruptcy in the year 2000, has led us into the situation were in..however I looked at all my options before filing bankruptcy.

I have used this company going on 4 years. I did have a high debt balance and i pay 1000 a month. I get the credit card bills in the mail and it does show that the balances are going down. i know they get my interest rates down to almost nothing. I hope another 12 months of this and I will be done. i don't have any complaints.

Im not sure why they wouldnt have contacted you about this, but it just goes to show that you are ultimately responsible for your accounts so one should always keep a close eye on whats going on. I went through a settlement co. an in all honestly they didnt call me much but then again i think i called them almost weekly just to know what was going on and who they were talking with and if they were optomistic about a deal. I probably was the biggest pain in thier butts (even though they were nice about it)i wanted to stay on top of it.

you should be dilligent with whomever you trust your financials with.
