Does anyone have a number for them? They are still showing an collection amount due on my credit report as of March 2006. I contacted them in 2005 and provided them information showing the Providian account was paid off in a home refinance in 2003. Thank you.

They are also infamous for illegally putting an open account on your CR that appears to be a revolving account.

They are scavenger junk debt buyers, don't pay them a dime. It will restart your statute of limitations on the alleged debt. They rarely sue, because they are chasing a fast buck from those they can con into paying something to them.

They've been known to send out demand letters which appear to have "coupons" or such on them. "save 20%"...call today, etc. This is utter rubbish. If they say you have a $200 debt, they purchased it for no more than $2. Yes they are ripoff extortionists.

Kathryn, send a letter to the credit bureau from where this report has been pulled out. Highlight the items that you feel are incorrect and request the bureau to conduct an investigation. After your dispute is found correct, the incorrect information will be removed from your file. This will lead to improved credit ratings.

Regards
Roxette

Unfortunately, you might have to deal with Cavalry to get it off of your report. If you dispute with a Credit Reporting agency, such as Experian, they just send a message to Cavalry, and Cavalry will just say yes we have the account and he/she does owe this amount.

I know someone who had success regarding this by contacting the Phoenix BBB and filed a conlaint stating that Cavalry had illegally re-aged the account before even the first letter, and had not validated the account.

I did dispute the listing with the credit bureau and they said it was a valid debt. I contacted Cavalry and they said to remove the debt I would have to get Providian to send me a letter of payoff. So I called Providian, who said I would need to send the information to their credit report dispute bureau, which I have done. So, now I am just waiting.
Can both Providian and Cavalry list on my credit report if they are the same debt? I am very confused about if this is considered a duplicate listing.

Yes they bought the debt from Providian. But we paid Providian off in a home refinance. The title company double checked the payoff amount the week before we signed the papers and sent Providian a check for the amount they were told. So how could there have been a debt for Cavalry to purchase?
By the way, I had the same problem with Sears selling a debt after we paid a settlement amount they agreed to in writing.

There should be some sort of paper trail then, showing the title company sent a payment to Providian. It appears that Providian (a preditory lender) must have not credited you with this payment and sold it to Cavalry. Ceck your records for the papers regarding this payment you made. You might have a case against Providian as well as Cavalry.

I sent both Providian and Cavalry a copy of the front and back of the canceled check and the letter from the title company stating "the payment represents payment in full of the account. In the event the payoff is short please apply the check to the account and notify the customer immediately of the remaining balance." We never received any correspondence after the payment was made. And the amount was supplied by Providian a week before we signed papers and was supposed to be good until 2 weeks after the signing. I have now disputed the debt with Providian and am waiting to here from them.

I also disputed a debt listed by calvary. They took it off one of the credit reports, but remains on 2 of them. I can't find their address to question this? Can you help?
