Hi folks,

I am dealing with a collection agency regarding an old medical bill. It is almost four years old and I really can't remember what it is for :( Anyway, I sent in the validation request and they did respond. They just listed a few payments I had made years back but did not included any original paper work. They have not reported to any agency so that's good. How do I respond to this because I really don't feel that this has been validated according to the fdcpa laws.

Did you have insurance back them and can you contact the insurance company to help you figure it out? I would maybe call them or if that doesn't work call the collection agency and ask who the dr. office was and see if that helps? What is the SOL on medical bills in your state.

(Good to see you back :) )

Sounds like they're trying to pull some scam, and breaking the law. They have to list the original creditor, even if the debt has been purchased. If the original isn't listed on their correspondence, they have to provide you with the name As far as validation, by your post, it seems they are yet to fulfill this request. Some collectors used to try to claim that medical bills are not "debt". The Eastern District Court of Pennsylvania has said that they are however, and covered under the fdcpa. (Adams vs. Law Offices of Stuckert and Yates).
