Hi! We keep getting an urgent automated phone call regarding our account with Target National Bank. We do not have one and feel this might be a scam. It could also be a ploy to get us to obtain a bank card from them. Any ideas?

I received a 1099-C tax form and I settled this account back in November of 2004. I am looking at settlement letter and my balance on this account was $1912.09 and I settled the account by paying $1530.67. Only $381.42 was consider as "forgiven debt". And according to the IRS debt that is $600 or more can be filed. Please contact me via email regarding who I need to contact to get this issue resolved.

Barbara, did they win a judgment against you? Wage garnishment is a legal process and your creditor needs to win the judgment first.

However, you can negotiate and insist them to reduce the rate of interest and work out some payment plan. If the account is sent to court already, I'm afraid few consolidation companies will like to work with you. You can register with this site to receive free counseling and discuss the issue with the counselor.

Actually, most counseling companies will still work with you, even if there is a judgement against you, or in process of one. It is best to consolidate now if you know judgement is in process, that way maybe it can be stopped. Or, at least when it goes to court you can show the judge that you consolidated and are making payments, and you have a better chance of winning, and being allowed to continue with payments without judgement.
