Anyone heard of Academy Collection Agency

Hi, I have been contacted a few times by Academy Collections by phone, and just found out that they called my parent's house. They used their automatic message that gave my name and if the person listening to the message was not me to hang up, etc. I also got a letter in the mail regarding the supposed debt I owe. I vaguely remember owing something on a store cc, but nowhere near the amount they are trying to collect! How do I tell AC to stop the phone calls period? I am working on cleaning up my cc debts (and have actually settled some with other, much nicer, collection agencies!) but am really short on money now. I want to keep my family out of my debt business and make these people leave them alone. Thanks for the input.

Why would you think it is bogus? I just saw this and for some reason feel the need to ask this question. I do not understand why someone would be so eager to bash a company for trying to make money.
It's seems like a person wants a credit card and signs whatever piece of paper necessary to be able to get the credit card. Then the fees are not acceptable to the consumer after the fact.(because not many people read the fine print) Either the consumer tries to pay the fees or just uses available credit and then for whatever reason doesn't have the money to pay. One payment turns into 2 and etc. Then the consumer loses their priveledge, gets annoyed and blows off the debt.
Or in my case fell into a financial situation due to family medical issues and could only pay 20.00 per month instead of the 50.00-60.00 necessary to catch up. Then about six months before paying off the debt one of the company's in house collectors decided to charge off the account and forward it to a collection agency. ( I did not like it but there was nothing I could do but try to follow up in writing and save my receipts)
Either way, once the account is in the 3rd party collection agency then there are only a few choices. Pay the bill and settle up, dispute the charges, or refuse to pay.
Which ever route a person decides to go doesn't change the fact that your account is now in a collection agency and they have a protocol to follow.
I am not saying it is okay to for someone to speak to me with a disrespectful tone and/or say words that are not appropriate but technically the agency's collectors have a right to do their job. (Someone has to do it)Right?

whatevs.your post is either a shill post or your paying a bottomfeeder will bite you in the rear.for one this place never furnishes anything in writing, and i don't advocate just paying some anonymous person who calls and demands money.on your other point.how do you dispute if the bottomfeeder won't disclose anything but the fact you owe and need to give sensitive info like a bank account now.does that protocol involve threats of any kind?this place engages in that routinely.arrest threats, garnishment threats.that is not only disrespectful, but it is illegal as well.yes there are actual legit collectors this isn't one of them.
