They do still collect, but I think they are touting themselves as a site to find lenders. Like people need help finding pdl companies, they are everywhere online.

Wouldn't it be interesting to apply for a loan from them and see if it got approved? I won't do it but it would be funny if it got approved. :)

JJ, I think I am too. I talked to some guy the other day and he said they just want their money back...well, guess what so do I since I way overpaid what my state says you can charge in the past YEARS I've had loans with them. :(

JJ,
Let us know how that turns out. I didn't realize they regrouped as another pdl company. They considered my account paid in full and then stated I had another account with them. I didn't think this was possible with Quik Payday. You can only have one account with them. They haven't pursued it any further and if they do, I have their e-mail stating my account was paid in full.

I still have about $120 that I owe to them and they are threatening to go to collections. Can they do that since they are closed?

Well, if they are out of business, then I don't think they should be able to collect from you (unless they sold it to a 3rd party). kbraveboy, have you checked your State laws to see if you have already paid them more than enough in fees, dues, etc? If you read more into this forum, you will realize that these payday loan places are ripping people off left and right...just make sure that the $120 is not a bonus amount for the PDL company to receive from you.

kbraveboy, I posted the law in another response to you. So you borrowed $300 each time? They overcharged you by $15 each loan of $300, according to SC law. So $15 for each rollover, times the number of times you rolled it over. I know I added up mine today, and it's over $2000. Makes me want to cry.
edited because I can do math lol

First, call the company and nicely ask how many times you have borrowed, if you don't have a list already of that information. That's what I did today.
Then I would send them a letter, by fax is possible but most definitely by certified mail, stating that you have repaid $xx, and your state law allows $yy, and you would like a refund. That's what I'm going to do. I've already filed formal complaints with VA, and I know Quikpayday has received them, so it's just more annoyance from me. :)
Good luck.

This is the e-mail that I got from Quik Payday.
Dear *****,
I'm contacting you regarding your payment of 60 due on 4/28/2006 through your checking account. It is very important that you keep this arrangement. If you have any questions feel free to email me back or to give me a call. Thanks and I hope you have a good day.

kbraveboy,
there isn't a searchable database so you have to fax a request to the SC Board of Financial Institutions to request verification of license. I've already done that, and I'm waiting for the fax back. I don't assume that everyone has access to a fax machine, and since I do I thought it would be easier to get the info. I'll send you a message when I get the fax back.

kbraveboy,
It sounds like you have probably paid more than you should've. Did you already pay over $345 to the company? If so, you shouldn't pay the $120 balance they say they need. Yes, if State law says payday loan companies are subject to certain amounts for fees, that's all they can charge...anything over that is fraud and you should definitely bring this up to the company.
I sent an e-mail to one of my Payday loan companies (One Step Cash) because they already debited $390 from my account and wanted $90 more because I missed one week. I sent them an e-mail telling them I have sent a letter to the Attorney General and also stating the State law mentioning the fee structure...They came back to me with a response saying they are not in the same State I am in so the law does not apply..but I wrote them back asking for their address and contact info...and well, no response from them. They don't want to expose anything because they know they are doing the wrong.
Just be strong, and brave!:)

What do I do? Ask them if they are licensed in SC? And how do I now that they are not lying?
More than likely, the company will lie if they are a payday loan
More than likely, the company will lie if they are a payday loan company. That's what was discovered in all these forums...there are some that are actually not even licensed in the US and are operating from Europe, India, etc. Crazy concept huh? What you need to do is ask them for a debt validation first and also ask them to send you a list of payments that you have already made so you know how much you have already sent them. A good person to PM is pollyandsay. She's got lots of info about this stuff. They basically cheated thousands of people already so how can you even think about putting any sort of trust in them? I certainly wouldn't.
