I have been in a debt relief program since OCT 2005. I have had 4 of the five companies I listed agree to my proposals. I have been having a difficult time with American General. The office manager claims they will not accept a proposal because my account is not current. They accept my decreased payments monthly and have stopped finance charges and late pmt fees according to my monthly statements.
The witch (sorry she is!!!) claims she is going to take me to court.....Is that legal???? My debt management company is sending payments monthly and NONE have been returned.
Please help me out here.
Thanks

She is claiming that I owe the past due amount. She calls incessantly on my cell phone. I sent another cease and desist letter today. Where can I report her for this constant harrassment???

have you called your counselor to let them know how this creditor is behaving? The counselor will likely have a better way to handle dealing with the person at American General. Even though they didn't accept the proposal, they aren't refusing the money either. It makes them look like jerks to see that you are paying, and they are just causing more problems.

Last resort, you could call your cell phone company and ask to change numbers because someone is harassing you. I know it's a hassle to change the number with friends, family etc, but it's easier than dealing with a rude company rep.

If you have asked them to stop calling on your cell phone they have to, because you are paying for the calls. They are not supposed to knowingly call a person's cell phone. Do you have a home phone? If so, you need to give them that number and tell them not to call your cell phone any more. Better yet, send them a letter saying so, and send it certified mail, return receipt requested. They have to stop calling a number you request them to stop calling. Also, if you have already sent a cease and desist letter and you have proof of that, you need to file a complaint with the AG's office and the FTC. You can sue them for not abiding by a cease and desist letter.

I filed a complaint with the FTC. they claim they cannot help me because American General is the creditor attempting to collect a debt. The ruling applies ONLY to third party credit collectors.... HMMMMM so now what should I do???? Should I worry that this witch will start legal action like HSBC did??? I am soooooo confused........
