I have like $7,000 in debt, and like a month ago I got a letter from J.A. Cambece Law firm saying that they represented CACH.LLC and that they were collecting the debt. I called them right away and only got voice mail. Like 2 weeks after that I got another letter saying that their client had agreed to do payment arrangements , to contact them. I call them that day and I spoke with someone at the office. They passed me to like 3 different persons. The last person on that I spoke to me starting going on how I needed to pay the full amount that same day and that by doing that they would let me pay like $5000 instead. I told them I did not have all the money but that I was willing to make payments, the reason I had called was because I wanted to pay my debt, if I had the money I would have paid already. She started saying if I did not pay they would go through a legal process and sue me. She said that I should tell my parents to give me the money or to put it on a credit card and that I had until 4pm that day.( last Friday). I told her that I did not want my parents involved( I'm 25), she said that it is better they know now because they would find out when I go to court. She didn't even listen to me, she just said I had till 4pm.. That same day I had enrolled in a debt consolidation program, but they would only call them until this week. This past 2 days I've been receiving calls every hour from this lady at Cambece, she called my work, she even found out my email.. When I told her yesterday that someone would be contacting her from the program I enrolled, she said she could not work with me or with the program and sent me a letter, which was done yesterday, saying that the debt belong to her office now and just went on and on... Is this right? Like do I have to pay the whole amount? I don't have all that money? Also, will they not accept to work with the debt program.. I really want to pay my debt, but I can't pay it all at once...

Hi Malka

The collection agency must prove to you in writing that they have your account with legitimate details. They need to go through the process of debt validation which will include the calculation of interest rates, fees, SOL of the state and other agreements signed with the original creditor.

After you have all the details in writing, send a letter proposing your payment plan. Send it through certified mail so that you have proof of your efforts made to do the payment.
