I would recommend asking for a freeze, which would stop any withdrawals from the account. Much easier and cheaper imo. Plus the pdl can sneak around by changing the debit amount by a penny.

If the PDL company intends to debit money from your account after a stop payment has been put, they might use a different amount for withdrawing the money. Due to this, your bank might honor the payment since there was a change in the specified amount.
My personal opinion will be to block the UserID of the PDL company that is set with the bank. Even if the amount is changed, your money won't reach them. You need to talk to your bank regarding this matter in advance.
Advice
Been there with Chase they will just cause it to be more of a hassle for you. Your best bet and even though it may not sound the best it to tell them that your check book was stolen..They will ask what check numbers, just tell them all of them and that you just want a new checking account issued. This way you never have to deal with the (PDL's) messing with you and you can avoid all those $30 stop payment fee's.
Hope it helped.
stay away from chase
Stay away from CHASE. They put a hold on my account because I owed some debt company $553.00. CHASE BANK IS NOT ALLOWING ME TO WITHDRAWL MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT BECASUE OF SOME COURT ORDERD. THEY ARE NOT TELLING ME ANYTHING IN DETAILS BECASUE IT'S AGAINT THEIR COURSE OF ACTION. SO I GOTTA CALL DEBT COLLECTION COMPANY TO FIGER IT OUT WHAT SHOULD I DO OR HOW AM I GOING TO USE MY OWN ACCOUNT.
