Hi

I looked at my credit report for the first time today and found a negative account with a balance of $400. I'm not sure if the information is accurate, since it is a medical bill which my insurance firms should have paid.

But given my circumstances, I would rather pay the $400 than fight these creditors. I am not sure if paying the $400 now will help my credit score / report in any way?

Would appreciate any advice / inputs?

Hi

My personal view is to call your creditors and request for the details of this account. Verify it properly and after you have found it to be correct, make a payment arrangement with them.

You must ensure that the money you pay goes towards the valid account and is updated accordingly in your file. Credit scores always go up after you pay any account in full. But make sure that you put your money in the right place. Do all your correspondences in writing and keep copies documented in a file.
