Hi Stephanie
Is this the first payment that Providian received for the particular account? Usually, it takes a couple of months for the creditors to stop the calls at your place. Some lenders still make the calls after you have used a consolidation program. I guess this is the normal phenomenon as it happens in most cases.
My personal opinion will be to call Providian and update them with the present situation. Inform that the consolidation company will be sending them payments regularly and any further correspondences regarding the accounts should be done with your consultant only.

generally, the collection departments and the debt management departments are seperate. as a result, there can often be a lag in communication, creating this situation. Speaking with them can often resolve this situation. Another problem could potentially be that your proposal was declined for some reason. In this case, your payment may not have been enough (if it doesn't cover the original minimum). In this case, it may take another month or so, and a reworking of the proposal to resolve the situation. Communicate with both your dmp company and your credit card company promptly to get the situation resolved in a timely manner.

For debt collection people, it usually takes about a month or so for them to stop making calls to your phone. I find this annoying because it has to go through processes and such and yes, takes a month to month and a half at times. Did they file a delinquency on your account? because then, unless you let them know you are paying this off in payments or whatever method you choose, they will continue to harass you via telephone. Even after you tell them what you are going to do, they will continue to call until you start fulfilling whatever method you chose to pay. I've had this experience and it's very annoying at first but the phone calls do die down after a while. My suggestion is, pay them off asap :)

I had an account with providian in 2003, it went to default. According to my records the account has past my states SOL, I called the other day to get information on the account, they stated that I made a payment in 2005, I know I did not make this payment. It puts the account with in Pa SOL, has anyone ever heard of a credit card company posting bogus payments to bring an account back into SOL limitations?
