I am having an issue with WC and they are making me paranoid as hell.

I just got my disability certificate from my doctor which states that my disability began on 12/21/05, so I will be getting back pay (hopefully) from then. That is a good thing.

HOWEVER, I found out that an "investigator", as she calls herself, has been going ot my ex's house looking for me. She left a card. The second time she came by there, she said that she wants me to give a deposition regarding my injury to "get the story straight" and so that I can be compensated for my injury. The "investigator" states that she works for Crum and Forster (they are the insurance carrier) and that I need to call her back.

Guys, I am scared! What does all of this mean? Should I really get an attorney?? I am freaking out and I do not want to call her back and get myself into trouble. Help me out guys :)

~Mary

I had an investigator contact me from Altama when I hurt my back and had to give a deposition and she went to every appointment I had and kept telling the doctor to give me a cotizone shot and that would solve the problem. Fortunantly the doctors didn't listen to her. Get a lawyer to go every step of the way. Don't end up like I did and get nothing.

My husband is on w/c and has been for 3 years I have never heard of anyone coming to your house for anyting. You need to make sure you have an attorney and if you do give them the ladies card. I my state they can not contact you. My husbands w/c does not even know where we live anymore. The Attorney deals with all that stuff and do not do anthing without your attorney there. These w/c people are sometimes as bad as CA. Also Watch your back they will be out in the ditches watching you to make sure you are not doing anything. They will try to take pictures of you doing something and it does not matter what it is. I cannot stand w/c companys they suck

I think you are right...right now I can't do anything, my wrist is still in a splint and has been since April 10th, but I really need to be careful. I have seen shows on TV where people have had their pictures taken secretly by WC investigators or whatever. I think that's why I'm so freaked out! I will call attorney on Monday. Thanks for all the advice guys, I appreciate it :)

We used to have an investigator sitting out in front of our house checing up on/spying on a lady that lived up the street. I talked to him once and asked him what he was doing and he said he was investigating this lady on a work comp claim and he asked me if I had ever seen her lift anything or do stuff. I don't even know the lady and no way was I getting involved. Mary as long as you're honest I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck! We're all pulling for you.

Thanks Sue! I don't see why an investigator is looking for me, I mean damn, I really DID have surgery, and they really DID find problems with my wrist. I just find it hard to believe that an employee of the insurance carrier would look for me so that I can be "compensated". When has an insurance company actually WANTED to give out money?? LOL...I think that's what threw me off. :)

workerscompensationinsurance.com. I have been in the WC system for over a year now, and this site has helped me in so many ways! IC's (insurance carriers)can in fact investigate IW's (injured workers), and they also can assign a nurse case manager to your case. I hope you have a lawyer, as this is key to move through the WC system successfully. Good luck, go to the site, it's my backbone.

Not a problem, and yes you do have a long road ahead of you....I'm right in the middle of it myself. What state are you from? I usually go in the main forum under the name "MM".

I'm from California. I don't know if that goes in my favor or not...

Here's my new issue: my physical therapy office has been trying to get a hold of my case worker to authorize more therapy visits, but they can't get a hold of him. So my appointment today was cancelled, along with all future appointments, until they get in contact with WC. So now I am stuck with extremely limited use of my dominant hand. This is pissing me off! As much as I hate...no, HATE physical therapy, I NEED it REGULARLY in order to get my functionality back. My hand is going to stiffen back up and the road ahead is just going to get longer. Sorry, just venting. :(

I had an attorney but she turned out to be a waste of my time. my case actually came to a screeching halt and i didn't get any medical treatment for a year and i ended up losing my pain management dr. because of her. I need a question answered about nurse case managers. what are they actually for? and what should i do with mine? she burnt up too of my second opinions and claims to be there to advocate for me but isn't doing anything. i'm watching everything i say and do around her but i really need to know if i should find a way to ditch her or can i USE her to my advantage somehow. I have a macerated labral tear and my shoulder is so unstable because of it it's dislocating just with me doing normal stuff like putting on my shirt. I really need to have it operated on and fixed but she seems to be "having trouble" finding an orthopedic surgeon to fix it so that i can get back to normal. PLEASE HELP MEEEEE!

Dear Mr. M
You have the right to see your docs and go to apts. without them right there with you. I have been stuck in WC world now for 11 years and not one thing any case nurse did, helped me in no way. They are there for the insurance comp.

My stepdad worked for the same company for 25 years, when he developed really bad carpal tunnel. The clinic that worker's comp sent him to demanded a release letter to give up his right to sue when they decided on a very risky procedure, that due to his very high white blood cell count, has a good chance of making him loose his arm - his body would attack the operation scars as if they were a disease, and attack anything attacked, etc. etc. Even a cold sends him to the hospital because his white blood cells attack his lungs thinking that they are the enemy. He was given SSI disability for life.

At any rate, because he wouldn't give up his right to sue for malpractice, they canceled his workers comp and denied him his pension. He has been fighting it for around 4 years now. All because they decided that he should have no arm at all if he wants what is due him.

I hate to upset you in any way but the medical industry is very corrupt. Plus, nurses are overworked and overstressed and will get paid no matter what, whether they work with you or someone with a simple ailment that can be cured in a couple of weeks. They don't seem to realize that this assembly-line mentality is the surest way to remove the human factor and replace it with souless robots (it's kind of the same way with debt collectors).

Have you tried requesting another one or complaining about her to the worker's comp board? "Burnt up" your 2nd opinions? Yes, I think you should ditch her - request a human.
