and told the lady who covers for me that. I needed to call him back ASAP. It was a serious legal issue. Can he tell people things like that. I know he can't release any info about my debt, but can he tell someone it is a legal issue???

No company should threaten legal actions unless they intend to do so. I will prefer to call the person back and know the reason. All collection agencies must follow the fdcpa laws and do fair business with the consumers.
