Hi razmom
Welcome to the forums.
Would you mind telling us something about your financial situation? Consolidation and settlement program function in different ways. But the objective of both these programs is to erase your past debts.
Please have a look at the following thread and understand the procedure of the consolidation as well as the settlement programs.

If you can tell us something in details, we will steer you in the right direction.

I spoke with a counselor from a debt settlement company (that this website connected me to) but the idea of letting accounts go to collections before the settlement company kicks in makes me nervous. So, I'm looking for debt consolidation options. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with Lowermybills.com, or have suggestions for good consolidation companies--any info. is appreciated!
I have big credit card bills & payday loans. I'm making it month to month but realize I've hit the point where I need to win the lottery or get some help. Since I don't buy lottery tickets, I'm looking for help instead

Before going with "lowermybills.com" check with local agencies and non-profit companies that do consolidation. The advantage with local companies is that they often provide debt management counciling and other services that big, online companies might not provide. I've looked into lowermybills.com before and decided against it because I was weary of them.

Hi razmom
Would you mind telling the total amount of debt you have? If it is a huge one, the company will settle it for less with the creditors and you will become debt free00 within less time. If you go for consolidation, you will have to make the monthly payments set in the program. It the debt amount is bigger, you will take more time to become debt free.
I will suggest you to talk to the company and insist them to negotiate with your creditors for reporting your accounts as 'paid'. Your account should not be reflected with the status 'settled'. If this can be arranged, I won't have any problems using a settlement program. I will think about becoming debt free first if the amount is huge and take care of the credit file at the same time.
