Don't read this if you're already having a bad day, k?

If I'm not around much for the next few days, or I dont' seem myself please don't worry about me, I'm going to catch you up on everything now.

I've mentioned slightly about my dog Barney being very ill. I just had to make the phone call to the vet to schedule her to be put to sleep tomorrow.

She's lost a lot of weight and won't eat. She can barely walk, and even when she's walking it's clear that she's not "there". She just kind of wanders around and sometimes has to lean on the wall for support and she'll just stand there for a while. She drinks water, but she just won't eat. I even tried to feed her yesterday out of desperation and she wouldn't do it. This has all come on very suddenly, but she is pretty old--14 years old. So I've known that she's not going to live forever, but I'm having a lot of trouble with this right now.

We're also going to have her cremated becuase I can't bear the thought of burying her, and maybe not living in this house anymore in the future, or leaving her at the vet.

Pair that bad news with the fact that my job is getting weird on me. They do store moves every so often and they've decided to make me a "floater". I'll make the same pay, but I have to work a different store every day which gets stressfull. I'm fine with it..A little ticked off, but I'll survive. I'm more worried about my "puppy" at this point.

I just want everyone to know I'll be ok. :) A little depressed, but I'm ok.

I have a dachshund breed that will be 9 years old on the 18th June. He has been with us like our child. I can feel the pain when pets get ill in the old age. Jessi, comfort Barney as much as you can. She needs you besides her at this time. She cannot express her pain but will feel much better at your arms. I pray that the vet understands her health problems and cures it. Pets and small children don't know how to express their pain and bear it silently. We just need to understand them.

I know its hard time for you to concentrate at your job schedule. Do take care of yourself too, Jessi. :)

Hi Jessie
I m sorry to hear about your pet. That is always a hard decision. My wife and I were just talking about out pets (all 4 dogs and three cats) health and ages last night. Our oldest and most loyal dog ( a dalmatian) is 12 now, and beginning to have seizures. She probably has a few good years left but the reality is there lurking in the background, and it's one neither of us likes to admit to.

Our thoughts and prayer will go out to you and Barney. For your own mental well being, its probably good your scheduled it for early in the day, so you don't have to go through the day thinking about it.

Jessi - Sorry to hear about Barney. I know its difficult - I had to put one of my cats down do to Cat HIV/Leukemia she was 12 years old. She was put down one year to the day my husband passed away. I had her cremated. My husband was cremated too. When his sister-in-law asked me to bury my husband 2 years later I said yes as long as they bury the cat with him. Which they did. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. I am crying now for I get really sad and upset when a pet dies. I just got two kittens last week and they are a lot of fun and help since I am by myself and my other older cat who is 6. Best of luck on your floatation = maybe they are seeing if you can be a manager of many stores??

Jessi-I am so sorry about Barney  ..I had to put my dog to sleep about a month or so ago, still miss her. What you are describing sounds exactly like my dog did. And I did feel better when it was over because the vet told me her liver had completely shut down and she must have had a tumor. I sobbed for days, but I knew it was the right decision. Please take care of yourself and get rest,it just takes a while to go through the grieving process and that's ok. My prayers are with you and Barney.Any time you nedd to talk,I'm here, just PM me...Karen

Jessi, I am so sorry that this decision had to be made. I totally understand where you are at as you know I put my Smokey kitty to sleep a month ago. Just keep in mind that Barney had a great life with you and that you gave him alot of love while he was with you. I will be thinking of you and Barney and I pray that you will have peace. You will be ok just remember to cry and don't keep it all bottled up. I found that it really helped to talk about whenever I felt the sadness welling up again. If you ever need to talk with someone let me know.
I pray that your job situation will go ok and not be to stressful and also that the meeting with the attorney goes well. Let us know.
Hugs to you.
Ruth

Hey guys! Update time.

It's all over with...And I DO feel better now. She went very easy. We're having her cremated and we'll have her back Monday or Tuesday.

I'm glad to be able to get some rest now, the past few nights have been a mess.

Thank you so much for your support. :)

LOL Well, I decided to take the next couple of weeks off and waste my 2 weeks of paid vacation time...I need a break. I'm having some serious burn-out issues.

I finally actually ATE something today which I haven't been able to do since Tuesday evening. I just haven't been able to stomach the thought of food..Even the smell made me ill. But I ate some spaghetti a little bit ago, and I feel better now.

I'm going to spend this next couple of weeks getting some good rest and taking better care of myself. :)

Jessi,

My heart goes out to you. I know how difficult it is to put a beloved pet to sleep. I went through the same situation a few years ago and I was a big mess. When my dog went missing a couple of months ago, I almost lost my mind. Then to find he had a broken leg after being hit by a car was even worse. But he is doing okay now. If you need anything, please let me know. Take care of yourself.

Hey, good to hear that you are taking some time off...you don't want to get burned out at work, trust me! I was way beyond burned out and I think that contributed to me getting hurt at work. Now I have another surgery coming up, and my hand will never be the same. So relax and enjoy your time off! I wish you were out here, you could go to the pool with me!!

It's tough with her being gone...I'm used to coming home and going in to say hi to her. We found her when she was a stray, just a skinny little puppy..It was raining and she was cold. We weren't going to keep her, but couldn't bear to give her away. :) She was a good dog, never mean, and never caused problems. (Other than she never got fully potty-trained and ruined 3 rooms of carpet...But we loved her anyway.:) )

Jessi-like I said,we put ours down a couple of months ago.Everymorning I get up and look at the foot of my bed for her to get my good-morning smooch :D And everytime it storms,I automatically get out of bed and head to the living room to turn the tv on so she won't hear the storms. It just takes time,I gues, but after 12 years,I guess it will take a while longer!I know how you fell, hang in there :D ...Karen
