Sir,

My father passed away back in april of 04. Mastercard keeps calling as says his debt is over 15,000. And, there was charges after his death. I personally called them and told them of his death. And destroyed his credit card that day. Now, they say I'm resposible for his debt. Am I. I can't afford to pay for it anyway..

Sincerely
Harry :(

Hi pathoosiers

I am so sorry to hear about the demise of your father. However, now that you have come to know about his debts, I would like to ask if you signed jointly with him for the credit card. If you didn't, then you are not responsible to pay his debt and MasterCard has no right to do such activities.

Please let me know if you have taken the death certificate of your father from the Office of the State Registrar. You can send a copy of it to the company and ensure that you are not required to pay his debt in legal terms. I guess that you have not signed the card jointly with him when applying for it.

If they still contact you, it is a violation of the law and you can contact the Federal bureaus and report them about this action.

Please let us know about it. We will be waiting to hear from you about it.
