I currently have 25k in cc debt, between my wife and I we have 50k in student loans, 8k in auto loans, a 100k mortgage, and owe 12k to my inlaws. We currently have our student loans in deferrment or forbearance for the third time. We are barely making it now and need to pay back my inlaws. I have looked into a few different debt settlement programs and lawgistix is the one that seems to offer the most promise and I haven't heard many negative things about them. I haven't heard many positive things about them either though. Lawgistix guarantees to settle for 40% of the amount owed and then will work to repair my credit after the settlement. The credit cards are with MBNA and Chase and they are currently enrolled in a credit counseling program and they have negotiated the interest rate to 2% on the 18k with MBNA and 6% on the 7k with Chase. I've been in the program for 1 year now and have 4 to go before I'm out of cc debt. Problem is we have to start paying on our student loans and we NEED to pay my inlaws back and we will not be able to afford all this.
My plan is to take out a home equity loan for about 30k to pay off the settlements and to pay off my inlaws. This way, the payment is lowered and I can deduct the interest. I have about 50k in equity. I don't really care about my credit afterward because I don't plan on having a credit card ever again, we just refinanced on a 6.5% 20 year fixed, and I plan on paying cash for cars from now on.
My question is who has been in these types of programs for more than 6 months and I desperately want to hear from people who have completed these programs.
Also does anyone know anything about Lawgistix. They have an office in Destin, FL and Grand Rapids, MI. Both offices have satisfactory ratings with the BBB. The FL office had three complaints, all of which were resolved, and 0 complaints in the MI office.

Read some feedbacks on equity loan. You risk your home when you apply for an equity loan, so be careful.

You can either consolidate or settle all your unsecured debts. Now a counselor can tell you what is best for you ??? consolidation or settlement? You can register with this site to talk to a counselor and get proper guidance.

The total amount of credit you have is perhaps a huge amount. If I were in your place, I would have definitely opted for a debt settlement02 program. The total amount of debt will reduce to half in a settlement program.

Shop for some more settlement companies so that you can compare the free quotes and come to a decision making. Read the terms signed with the company and have everything in writing. There is a lot of patience involved in a debt settlement program. Know others who have taken this program and are feeling better with this program.

Thanks, I'm still looking around to find the right company, unfortunately I have no other choice but to do a Home Equity loan, I can't afford the payments now through the counseling program at 2% and 6%. Consolidation programs would increase the payment. Even if I get the equity loan I still have an additional 23k in equity left over, and I haven't ever heard of a foreclosure on a second mortgage.

Browse through the various companies listed in the ranking chart. They are based on the feedbacks given in an area. I will opt for Superior Debt Services because I have heard good things about them. Read the terms and conditions before signing the contract with the company. debt settlement programs take some time in delivering their outcome. Documentation is the key before you trust some company by giving your money.

Did you ever get any info on Lawgistix? You mention that they have a favorable rating with the BBB, but when I checked, it doesn't appear that they are a member (??). My husband and I are drowning in so much debt we can't even come up for air, and are considering signing up with Lawgistix. I desperately want some advice before doing so, however. They haven't been in business all that long, and I want to know some success (or horror) stories other than what is posted on their website. Thanks to anyone who can respond fast! If no info on Lawgistix, who can personally recommend another settlement company?

Read this thread below. You might be able to make a sensible decision afterwards.

If you are interested in working with Lawgistix, get the contract in writing and review all the terms and conditions carefully. Clear all the queries before you get started with them.

Very interesting thread.. I spent over an hour talking with a lady from Lawgistix last weekend, and liked what she told me. However, now that I've read someone's actual experience, I'm not so sure she wasn't just trying to tell me what I wanted to hear to get my business. I am severely in debt ($70k!) and have no real means of paying the majority of it back. My paycheck is gone the minute it hits the bank because of automatic drafts for one thing or another, and my husband's income is sketchy at best. We don't even make enough to live on. I'm at the end of my wits.

Inovermyhead, if you haven't already you need to read my post on "valuable information about Lawgistix" before you sign up with them. If you have $70k in debt you best not to sign up because you won't have enough money to put in your acct over there for them to help you. I don't care what this woman says, I heard all the glory as well. Right now I sit with 2 warrants. They did nothing for me! I've looked into chap 13 and am considering doing that. If you want to talk about this you can PM me.

Quietsound, I'm new to this posting thing, so I don't know where to find the post you mentioned since it is not directly above, but it really isn't important now, I guess. After all my investigation into Lawgistix and others, I had decided that if we could make arrangements with our creditors, I would attempt to settle these debts myself instead of trusting some outside company to do it (not to mention saving the 15% fees), but after discussion with my family, my husband and I have set an appointment to visit with a bankruptcy attorney next week. Looks like chapter 7 may be the best thing for us at this point. The more I looked into these companies the more uneasy I became. Thanks for posting your experience. It probably saved me from making a huge mistake!

Hello,
My mom signed up with Lawgistix and it has been a bumpy ride. She is getting colleciton calls starting at 8 am until 10 pm at night. She is in her 70's so I am trying to make sense of all this. Today we got a letter from an attorney and they are stating she better contact them or else. Per Lawgistix they have contacted all creditors and cannot do much until money is in her account. That would be the whole amount as they do not set up monthly payments with creditors. All funds have to be there and then they contact debts to negotiate payoffs. Not been a good experience at all.
