Most of the consolidation companies temporarily close the accounts for the sake of your benefit. If you continue incurring more on the account even after pursuing consolidation program, it will prolong the method. Are you consolidating credit cards only?

Have you talked to your lenders for a payment arrangement? They might understand your present financial situation and work out something beneficial for you.
If that doesn't work, you can close your checking account and stop the debits. The lenders will call you for payments. You can use other sources of sending them money. Read this thread:
