I I have been using Cash Transfer Center for about a year with no problem. However, last week I requested a loan of $200. Next day checking status of loan I was shocked to discover $900 was to be put in to my account. I called CTC immediately to rectify situation to no avail. The person I spoke to said there was noting they could do. But if I talked to a supervisor they could be some options. No way. The supervisor was very rude and unwilling to do anything!!! Made it a point to stress I would be charged NSF if I didnt have the money in the bank. Would bnot negogiate at all == funds weetn reven in my account yet. Emails are unanswered.I cannot afford to have them withdraw $1143 out of my account. I am willing to pay the $900 back but not the fees. Any suggestions?

Ps I live in Massachusetts where Payday loans are illegal.

Is the money already deposited into your account?

See if you can ask your bank to close the account so that CTC does not make a debit. Once it's done, you can send the money through money order.

CTC has an illegal business in US. Please read the different posts about this company and get better informed.

I can't add anything to that advice from mcranberra. I can say that CTC is ruthless when it comes to collecting. They are illegal and based in Canada and Malta. They will send a wage assignment to your job. It is not a legal document but some employers fall for it. They will call your refs. Send that money back ASAP and close that account. This is a new tactic I have not seen before.

Yes the $900 was deposited. I closed my account. However they did try to take $571 out with no success. I sent via fax to numerous numbers a revocation letter and have spoken to HR Dept who will politely tell them to bug off. I also stated in my letter I will send a certified bank check in the amount of $900.00 upon receipt of a correct address to send it to. So I am waiting...

Still wondering if these loans are illegal in Massachusetts. This site is great thanks for your info.

slowder/guest, it sounds like you have been doing all of the right things as far as closing your bank account, etc. I would do as you are planning and send them their $900 along with a letter explaining what happened. The only problem is getting a physical address for them. They would not give me one. They said they do not have access to postal mail!!!

yes getting the correct address is the tricky part. I haven't heard from them yet who knows maybe they will cooperate.
Cross your fingers!!! Thanks to all the info I have gotten from this site I know what I am facing and I am know their scare tactics. However they were wrong, I have the emails, faxes, etc. and am willing to give the money back. Ball in their court. Thanks again!!

I actually called three times and asked for supervisor. All said same thing ,, nothing they could do.... think they read from a script. I did reach someone in payment services from Northway who agreed with me and saw that it was an error however she had to connect me to supervisor "Tracy" who would not give me her last name and gave me Malta address.
Since closed account however I havent talked to anyone. I thought they would call me immediately.

Update!! Received an email from CTC regarding my account. The standard notice. I called number given me and was transferred three times before being able to speak to someone. This person told me he was unable to do anything as my account is now in "Cease Collections" status. Huh? What does this mean. They now dont want the $900. I then was transfered to yet "another supervisor" and got her voice mail. Maybe my letter scared them as I mentioned legality of loans in Mass and cc'd the letter to the Attorney Generals office. Strange outfit.

"Cease collections" status, huh. That is a new one. I take it to mean that they are not supposed to try to collect on it but I don't want to assume anything. They are a very strange outfit. Maybe they realize how bad they messed up and just want to write it off? Anyone else have any feedback?

Got a letter from CTC they are "investigating my complaint" and will get back to me at a later date. Envelope post marked Canada. However no address or signature on letterhead and no return address on envelope. I am now wondering should I ask for a refund from them for the past loans I have received - it wont be much but every little bit helps.

I have a loan for $600 out with CTC, they are scheduled to debit my account for $765 on Friday. However, I am closing my account tomorrow due to other pdl companies that continue to debit (see previous posts under destinysjenny)..I do intend on repaying the loan agreed upon. Should I go ahead and contact them in advance (dont they have a 'live chat' option somewhere? or I could try to contact via email or phone) and let them know I am closing my account due to fraudulent activity with other companies & I would like to pay back the loan but will need to send them money order? Looks like they wont work with me either way, but if they have even an ounce of common sense they'll realize Im not going to pay them except by money order & give me an address.
Guest - how soon did they start mailing your accounting department/work and hassling your refernces?

Another letter today -- they have agreed to let me pay the $900 with fees for original $200 requested loan. However they did try and debit my account for 571. Now they are only requesting 382.50 via western union for my account to be PIF. Should I go for it. Does Western Union have a tracking system? (slowder)

It looks like they wanted $900 first, then attempted a debit which was rejected, now CTC has come back with a settlement offer of $382.50. Even if nothing was ever paid on $200 loan $182.50 in interest and fees is outrageous for a $200 loan. I wouldn't do it. Demand to settle what you legally owe.

No...I have not paid anything. I asked for $200 while checking status I saw that $900 was pending. See above posts. I called 3 times and emailed BEFORE money was in account. No help. Therefore I closed my account and sent letters -- I would give back the 900 and 900 only via certified check. They did try and debit account and seem to think 571 went though. In short they wanted 954 and say my balance is 382??? Which I will gladly pay. I am trying to calculate how much I have paid in past loans on interest to perhaps have that refunded.

Kind of long, but...

Quote:

Question - I received the following email today from CTC - I have been avoiding their calls but will probably call them tonite to tell them I will be mailing a few money orders to pay off my loan (see my previous post a few posts up.)
Here's the email -

Loan Repayment Date:
May 25, 2007

My question is - They state they have contacted my payroll department. Does anyone know if they go as far as tracking down different phone numbers for my company? I only gave them this main line to my office, and I or my coworker are the only people that ever answer it and she is aware that if anyone asks for me or the 'payroll department/HR', that its probably a pdl company and not to transfer it. So there's no way they can contact my payroll dept. unless they have a different phone #...we also do the mail so Id know if they mailed the payroll dept. something.

Would they have tracked down a different phone number for my payroll dept. or are they probably bluffing when they say they've spoken to my payroll dept.??

Sonic or CTC is a very sneaky company. I would suggest sending them a letter revoking the voluntary wage assignment. I would e-mail, fax, and send it certified mail. Also, let your payroll department know not to garnish your wages for this debt. It has happened in the past to others. Somehow, they have gotten away with it. They tracked down my boss's email somehow and sent him a letter. They also copied me on it at home. I don't know how they got it but they did. They kind of kicked themselves in the butt because this was one of the main reasons they forgave my loan. They said it was for employment verification but they stated that I had defaulted on a loan with them. That is against the law. I'm not trying to scare you but you need to be prepared when dealing with these guys.

What you need to do is get this to your payroll dept. Faxing CTC a garnishment revocation will probably do you no good, as they're going to try it anyway. I would send them this letter, certified, signature required, so you know they got it. Otherwise, they'll claim it never got there.
Fax another copy to payroll today, call to confirm they got it and get the person's name and extension that you talked to. That way, you know payroll has been instructed to send anything from them back.

Well, I called CTC on my lunch break to ask them if I could set up pay plans. The lady I spoke with seemed really nice so it was difficult to be firm with her. She stated that if my loan defaults on its first paydate (which was the 25th), they give me a new one, but after that it goes in to collections. So now my new paydate is June 8th and she stated I owed $820 (my loan was for $600, so on the 25th they were supposed to debit $765..not sure how it got up to $820, default charges maybe??).
Thing is, there's no way I'm able to pay that this Friday. I wont be able to pay them in full and am wanting to send money orders until I pay it off. I'm supposed to call the gentleman that my account was assigned to later today and give him my new bank account number (which I told her I was going to have a new account just to buy me some time)but I am just going to have to tell him there's no way I can pay it in full and I don't have a checking account (i do but there's no way in h*ll I'm giving any pdl company my account info again)... I know they'll say they dont accept cashier's checks but they'll just have to. I already faxed in the wage assignment letter and I'm certify mailing it tomorrow..and I'll let my payroll dept. know. Should I wait til next week when my 2nd due date defaults to deal with them or go ahead & call them after work and tell them I wont be able to pay on the 8th?

I got the same form letter. They have never called me or my office. I did call them and got the "cease collections status" (see above post). Then I got letter stating if I paid 382.50 via Western Union I would be paid in full ... I called and apparently the left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing there. He had no idea what letter I was referring to. Anyway I sent the 382.50. Then got a letter saying they had received it but to bring account full I still owe 218. So I faxed over all the letters showing their statement if I paid the 382.50 I would be PIF and that I was not sending another cent!! I havent heard from them in a week. Oh and my letter said I could borrow another 1500 immediately by calling !. Had no number. Again the letter was in plain envelope and no address on letterhead. Such a sad bunch. (slowder)

mikey, that's how they do it. Instead of one large debit amount, they break it down into two debits totalling the amount you are to pay back.
