Thanks for sharing the info, less. Have you used any one of the lawyers from their website? Would you like to recommend someone? It will be good to talk to someone whose services has already been used and found satisfactory.

This website also has a link (at least for PA) for help with laws in your state. I read some things about judgements and what happens if you lose in court and found it very interesting and scary. I didn't realize what can happen if you go to court and lose. I would advise anyone to handle the matters before it gets to court definately.

nearly every state has some form of legal aid A good place to start is searching a stat'es bar association website and/or state Ag website. Also, remember that some legal assistance is better than none, most attorneys will give you an initial half hour consultation for free, sometimes that helps.. it also doesnt hurt to talk with an attorney about what you can or can't afford to pay, some wil work with you and some will do what they can for what you can pay.

I qualify for probono through my state's legal aid. Unfortunately, the lawyer I got was either unable or unwilling to assist me. His recommendation, after five minutes, was bankruptcy. Then proceeded to tell me how even that might not help.

Now, the lawyer my parents use, and are paying for me to use after I explained about the free lawyer, is EXTREMELY helpful. Looked at my contract with my debt settlement place, and I'll be getting back quite a bit of money from them, and he is currently assisting me with threats of litigation from Discover and my debt settlement's pack of lies involving them. He was surprised the other lawyer (the free one) had jumped to bankruptcy so quickly without trying to do anything to help me.

So sometimes, you get what you pay for. I guess if you are very desperate, you've got to get whatever you can... maybe I just got a lazy guy on his lunchbreak. :)
