If so, who are they? The number they call from is Unavailable, and they man who called himself Keith, was extremely rude from the brginning of the call. When I finally got to tell him that he actually had teh wrong number, he began to threaten me with going to jail. When I asked for what..he hung up? Make any sense to you?

The only problem is that this call really was a wrong number. Can they threaten the wrong people?

Posing threats is against the federal laws. These violations must be immediately reported to the concerned authorities of your state. Do not let them continue with it and make you weaker. Read the fdcpa for your legal rights and dealing with the collection agencies.

If a debtor can get a legal protection, why not a reference contact will get contact? Non- debtors contacted like third parties or someone contacted with a mistaken identity must send the cease and desist letter as directed in the federal laws. They can use the legal protection after sending the cease and desist letter to the company. And the collection agencies are forced to abide the stated laws.
