Ok, I have quite a few PDLs that I stopped paying in April because I was going on maternity leave with no pay and just knew there was no way I was going to be able to keep up all these loans while I was out. Of course, I wishfully kept thinking I could have them all paid back by the time I had my baby, but as everyone here knows, that was just about impossible. So anyways, I had contact T & C in April, but then I didn't want to sign up just then because I was afraid while on maternity leave I wouldn't be able to pay them. Well then they told me since I couldn't pay the retainer fee and start the program that I would have to wait 90 days to reapply. So in the meantime, I've been harassed daily by 50 million phone calls and I used to answer them and talk to the places and try to explain my situation, but it didn't really seem to help. It would stop the calls for a few days and then they would start again. And being home with a 2 year old and a newborn all day I honestly didn't want to deal with the stupid PDL places anymore. So now I am back at work and trying to get caught up on everything (rent, utilities, credit cards, car, etc.) (my husband only works part time as he watches our kids and while I was home, he was able to get more hours, but still not enough to pay everything we normally pay). Sorry, this is so long, but now today I had ACE Cash Express call me at work and I tried to tell them that I would like to start paying them something but not until next month. The guy was a total jerk and kept saying that I should know the check-fraud laws (because I work at an attorney's office) and I told him, yes, I know the laws and you can't do anything to me about a bad check. For one, I never technically wrote a check for the PDL from them. I gave the clerk a blank check and signed an agreement. I told him I know I owe the money and that I would like to make some arrangements and he just kept throwing the bad-check laws at me. We went round and round until he made me so mad I hung up on him. So anyways, I'm just wondering, has anyone else dealt with ACE (a store front lender) and if so, were you ever able to make arrangements and if not, what happened? I know they cannot get me for a bad check. I'm in Ohio also, if that helps. Also, does anyone know if when I do finally sign up with T & C will ACE work with them. Any feedback will be appreciated.

They are trying to bluff you. Ace will keep it in house for 30 days or so then quit calling, after a while they will send you to a CA. Their in house collector was a bit of a jerk and tried the same stuff, when I laid the laws of my state in front of him and told him what he can cand can't do, he still bitched but quit threatening. As always keep working towards your goal, pay no more than yoyu can keep up with and document all things in writing.

n my case the CA was more than willing to work with me. My guess is also that in the end they will work with T&C.

keep your head up - the people that call you are often paid to be jerks and make you submit to whatever they are asking you. It's happened to all of us (I even helped my boyfriend out by being his contact with his WAY over due credit card, and the guy I talked to made me cry even... and it wasn't even my debt). They aren't nice!

Don't let these little peons get to you. I get the same kind of garbage when they call me---it is hard to not let them get to you, but don't let them see you sweat (so to speak), cause then they will know their tactics have worked. Keep in contac here with us on the boards---we are all great at boosting each other up when down.
