Is this legit?

I never took this loan out, but they absolutely say it's my debt. They can provide me no documentation such as a signature, location of the origination of this loan, nothing. All they can tell me is that my name/social security number match up to this loan and that I absolutely have to pay it. Do I have any ground to stand on here with the lack of documentation?
Thanks,
John

Red,first you have to find out if this is your debt, send the CA a debt validation letter. There are forms in this forum you can use or browse the forums on how to do it. Second, depending on your state,it may well be out of the statutes of limitations. But you need to find out how they have your ss number, etc. Good luck :D ...Karen

In the meantime till the debt gets validated, do not make any agreement about paying the CA. They might get your statement recorded and hold it against you. If this happens, the SOL that might have already expired will get renewed from the beginning and you will be forced to pay them back.

If you are comfident that you dont owe any money, file a complaint with the FTC and bbb. Check your credit file as well because it is illegal for them to commit fraud.
Call them and ask as many questions and record the phone calls but dont let them know youre recording. If its illegal to record the calls in your state do it anyways and and write out the conversation for documentation.
