Does anyone have a generic sample of a letter I can
write to the credit bureau's to take junk off of
my credit reports?
Thanks

Some of the bureaus allow you to do some of this online. If you open up your report online, you can dispute some of what is on there. They will file an investigation and notify you of the results. IF what you claim is accurate, they can change it without a problem. However, some of the thing require a phone call to the company (wrong addresses, SS numbers, employment info, etc). They are very easy to deal with on the phone and if your claim requires action to be taken with the reporting creditor, they give you contact information for that group. IF no resolution comes and your report does not reflect changes in a couple of months, then I'd get busy writing a letter. I know most people on here recommend everything in writing - but the bureaus have been very helpful over the phone for me. And I feel that I'm having more of a hand in things changing rather than hoping my letter gets read. Letters are always great, but do try a phone call first. Now, when it comes to credit cards and loan companies - get all of that in writing - don't even mess with a phone call.

Re-word the letter given below as per your situation and send it through certified mail with return receipt requested. Highlight the items that you feel is incorrect in your file. It will be good to compare your credit report with the copies from the other two bureaus and then put it on dispute.
Ehwin is correct. You can do the dispute over the phone but it will be better to send a written copy as well. You will have a written record of your dispute. If an item is removed from your file and after some time, it is inserted, the CRA must show proof of its entry. Your dispute will be a proof in the first place that the specific item is incorrect.
