Encore Receivable Management cashed my check but I still owe
Date: Mon, 06/26/2006 - 11:21
There's a company that tried collecting a phone company debt that I owed in March of this year. They're called Encore, and I have read many things about them on this forum. I wrote them an electronic check in march, and it cashed a few days later. Now, three months later, I still owe the phone company (who hired in Encore) money, and Encore says they cannot do anything because the account has been closed. Meanwhile, my money is gone. The check was cashed at a bank only a few miles from Encore, so you can figure that one out...Anyone know which bank Encore deals with? And what I can do to get my money back? I paid the debt to the phone company in the meantime, so that is no longer an issue. Can anyone help with suggestions?
Thanks!

What is the latest status of this debt in your credit report? If Encore Receivable Management has reported your phone company about the payments, they must be having other information also. Talk to the phone company for more details. Besides, you can verify the status from the company used for making the electronic check. If Encore has tried to pocket your money by not sending it to the company, you must consult an attorney in this regard.

Well, Sprint is the phone company. They have contacted yet another collection agency for the outstanding balance. Or at least what they think is the outstanding balance. I talked with that new collection agency, and they said that as soon as I paid, it would "come off" my credit report. I paid (a little scary since I got burned the first time doing that) the outstanding balance just last Saturday, and that should pacify Sprint, and clear my credit report. Meanwhile, though, Encore still has my original payment. I didn't know what you meant by "reported to my phone company", or "verifying the status". Basically, when I call Sprint, all I can get out of the (ever changing) representative is that it is not paid, and to contact Encore. When I call Encore all I get is "the account has been closed and there's nothing I can do, call Sprint". If I get to talk to them, that is....Most of the time I do not get through to a manager, and they certainly never call back.
encore has contacted me by letter
they say that they are a third party cooection agency and that if i sign up for the program that says i will get my interest rate lowered form 29% to 10 % and make payments to them for my care credit card. i told them i am paying my back payments off in a week and they tryed that. what do you think i should do. just ignore them and pay care credit?
