Went to court today for a medical bill
Date: Tue, 06/27/2006 - 12:44
A few weeks ago, I got notice to go to court, so I went today at 2.
The attorney pulled me out into the hallway and asked what *I* wanted to do about this. I said, "I'm not sure if your lady you have do your calls TOLD you, but I TOLD her I could pay at the end of June. She said that wasn't good enough."
He said, "Hmm...It's the end of June isn't it?" I said, "Yeah, and you could have saved yourself a trip across town if you would have sent me my validation months ago and let me make arrangements. Why don't we just DROP this, and I'll bring you a check on Friday morning?" He agreed.
No judgement on record, and he'll be paid on Friday! YIPPEE!
GOOD!!!! Sounds like a colossal waste of time, but you beat 'em!

Jessi, you didn't get the validation of the account as of yet. So, are you paying something out of settlement? How will you know that the check issued will not be more than the actual amount?
***SENDING VIBES TO FINSFAN*** LOL I hope I sent the right ones.

G&R--
I know the exact amount that I owe, because I have the root canal in my mouth..lol And he FINALLY gave me the information I asked his dumbo staff for months ago. I'm taking him a check on Friday morning. I told him I'm going to personally bring it to his office and put it in his hand.

Then it works OK. Make sure that you get that "paid in full" in writing from their office. Also, the account needs to be updated in your credit report as it will help in improving your credit profile. Sounds nice that you are out of this mess!!

The account is actually NOT in my credit report. That was the only thing I could get the witch from his office TO do was not report it. And since the attorney is letting me pay him Friday, there will be no judgement on my record. Basically we got an extention for 1 week, and I'm paying him before that, so he'll have to dismiss the charges, so it will be like it never happened.

Congratulations Jessi, just goes to show sometimes the little guy (or gal) CAN prevail. It does kinda make you wonder though, do these Collections Attorneys ever talk to the people doing the ground work for them ? Do they ever look at the file? Do they ever thing before running of to file suit?
No, they just like to waste money I think. I costs $71 to file
No, they just like to waste money I think. I costs $71 to file a small claims suit in Franklin County. I told him I'm NOT paying that because I had to pay to park downtown and walk 5 blocks in the heat and get bothered by people wanting me to sign petitions and go through a metal detector (Which my hardware in my leg/foot managed to set off) and sit and wait for him to show up so that I can pay him on the same exact day I told his "helper" I would pay them on. *gasp for air* He said that's fine, and I said, "Write that on the top of this paper and sign it." LOL

I was sued in municipal small claims court (Middletown, OH) for a dentist bill I had ALREADY PAID  a couple of weeks prior to the dentist. The attorney's office wanted me to pay the court costs which, I think, were $30. I said, "No its not my fault you don't know what you're doing." I didn't have to go to court (I now live 1-1/2 hours away) because on the court paper in response to the summons I checked I would show up in court to contest my case. I guess the attorney didn't feel like driving up from Cincinnati (about 1-1/2 hours) for $30 and they dropped the case with prejudice (meaning the matter is settled). I guess they figured I would shake in my shoes in fright because they were attorneys! It really wasn't the $30, just the principle and I was prepared to drive the 1-1/2 hours to court to show the judge what incompetents they were. 8)
That's awesome. I think if they want to file a case for somet
That's awesome.
I think if they want to file a case for something so silly, then they should have to pay for it, right? $30 is just silly.
Jessi, I'm glad to hear things worked out for you on this. I
Jessi,
I'm glad to hear things worked out for you on this. I knew you were concerned about it and I'm glad you got to "fight" back a little. I had an old medical bill go to a lawyer for collections in Toledo. The dang thing was four years old and they never properly validated my request. That could not tell me who my original creditor was but I found out through my old insurance company. The bill had been paid and the hospital never updated their records. I remember once I got a collection notice on a hospital bill before I got a bill from the hospital themselves. Crazy but I'm glad things worked out for you.
I'm glad too. Things are coming along nicely here for once. :)
