Hello, Equidebt Ltd send round officers posing as couriers they hand you an envelope and say it contains tickets, then they hand you a piece of paper attached to a clipboard and ask you to print and sign for the non-existent tickets, the envelope of course does not contain tickets but a standard payment reminder letter.

There should be more laws to protect innocent people from debt collection agencies, have they done anything illegal by posing as couriers and getting people to sign for tickets that do not exist, they can just send these type of letters in the post, why do they have to lie and act in unscrupulous ways.

Tyler, the CA's action of disguising their business identity is illegal in the books of law. No business is allowed to deliberately misguide the people. If you accept some kind of reminder for a debt that does not belong to you, the company can force that you have been notified about it earlier and you have given your consent by signing for it. Be careful when you are receiving such packets. Never accept anything unless you have opened and checked the content.

Do you know the name of the company for which Equidebt is collecting? Check the letter and see if everything has been written correctly. If you are not comfortable dealing with the CA, contact the original company.

most likely it is. The SOL is determine by the date of last activity (i.e payment or charge off) which ever is later, and varies by state. the Federal SOL is on reporting this item on your credit report. If you haven't made any payment since 1999 or earlier then it is no longer reportable to the credit bureaus. If it is on your credit reports, then you should request an investigation and tell them the account is time barred under the FCRA.

I am following up our complaint with trading standards (UK) about how Equidebt treated us, when I told Trading Standards how Equidebt had deliberately lied, they where shocked that a company like Equidebt (who are licensed by the Office of Fair Trading) could stoop so low. Equidebt have treated us with nothing but disrespect, whenever we have been in touch, or they have contacted us. We shouldn't just let Equidebt get away with it, complaining to the Office of Fair Trading & Trading standards is the only way to stop Equidebt from harassing more people.

Just in case anyone else has found this by goggling equidebt before you get worried or make any acknowledgement of the debt at all make sure you are not being taken for a ride. I have an old debt that was returned to the creditor by a legitimate collection agency as it was illegal for them to try and collect the debt AIC and now equidebt have since tried to collect the debt, so it seems likely that they are willing to take on debts that are unenforceable in the hope of scaring you into paying. I also had this problem from AIC - allied international credit, another company of less then gutter morals. Good luck they can be nasty to deal with just tell them you will call the police if they continue to harass you.
