I'm getting ready to close my checking account after getting stuck in the payday loan cycle. Will the bank charge me fees after closing my account when the pdls try to debit their fee? If so how do I deal with this? Thanks for your help

The laws in banking vary from one state to another. The company may try to debit from your account and if the funds are not available, the bank may put NSF charges on you. You can negotiate with them to reduce such fees. Before the bank allows you to close the account, you will have to clear all their dues first. Talk to your bank as they can guide you on how to deal with this matter.

At the same time, you need to talk to your lenders and arrange payment plans with them. They want to get their money back. If you can send some partial payments, they will be willing to work with you.

I closed my account (here in California) about 2 months ago. I waited until all checks cleared and then withdrew what was left, this was on a Wednesday and I had PDL fees supposed to come out on Friday. They (BofA) told me that the debits would just be rejected. I have not been charged anything. It seems that once you close that account your connection with them is done.

My bank closed my account (on my behalf) because it had been overdrawn for so long because of the NSFs. My fear is that the PDLs next step will be to try to garnish my wages. Can they do that? Can I stop them? I feel like I am fighting a losing battle that has been goign on for almost 6 months! This has caused me unbelievable amounts of stress and I am pretty sure it caused at least one seizure. I am epileptic and happened to be on hold with One Click Cash in April when I had a seizure. Do you think I can use that? Ha ha! Anyway. It seems Missouri laws don't protect consuers against the predatory behaviors of these companies and, in fact, the state this year made it nearly impossile to file for backruptcy. Anybody know who I can turn to for help in my fine, corporate-driven state?

Emmy, you can stop the lenders from garnishing your wages if you can make partial payments towards the account. Once you are able to show payment activity towards the account, possibility of legal actions against you weakens at that time. You have to talk to your lenders and arrange payments with them. Review the loan statement and if you do not have anything to dispute over it, make partial payments towards the account. This way, you can stop them from filing a case against you at the court.
