Hey everyone,

I guess at this point, I'm not sure what to do about my debt. I currently have $11,000 in credit card debt (which if I got paid off, I would be fine)....$35,000 in student loans, and a $16,000 car loan.

I have programmed in my collections companies as "don't answer" and set the ringer to silent on my cell phone - I know avoiding isn't a good way.

At this point, I just got a new job and I'm making a little over $32,000/year ($900/2 weeks). I think (from my understanding) that this is TOO much to get into a debt consolidation program....

Any other ideas on how to get rid of this debt and start repairing my credit report without having to come up with $11K to pay my credit cards off right away?

You can qualify for a consolidation program without any problems. You will be able to fix your credit when you pay off your accounts one by one. As you are having a good job, it's the best time to start paying off your accounts and improve your credit potential.

Talk to a debt counselor and include your credit card debts and the bills in collections into one monthly payment. You will be offered various payment plans in the program. You can pick the best plan as per your financial situation and get started in the program.

The counselor will review your debt accounts and guide you in the right direction. He will talk with your credit companies and reduce the total debt to a minimum balance. Your credit will improve after payments get posted towards your account. Talk to a counselor and he will help you in framing your repayment plans.

Well Erin, whoever you talked to was full of crap. Your boyfriend's income has nothing to do with YOUR debt, and neither does your salary. If you're having trouble, you're having trouble.

Sign up for this site, and let one of the counselors give you a call. They'll help you get everything straighted out.

Erin--Make sure you're signing in to the forums so you can earn points for your posts. Each point is equal to 1 cent. Doesn't seem like much, but it adds up. Many of us have paid off debts this way...And free money is always good. :)

Good to know you're on your way! Keep us updated on your progress.
