Pallisades just showed up on credit report...incorrect SSN
Date: Mon, 07/10/2006 - 18:57
Anyways there is a single negative entry for collection from Pallisades Collection collecting on an AT&T account.
I called Pallisades and gave them my SSN and was told there is no outstanding debt owed by me. I gave them the account number from the credit report (Experian BTW...the other 2 bureaus show nothing). With the account number something comes up in my name but I was told it was a different SSN.
I was told to call the credit bureau and dispute it. I did that 7/3 and got a response that it "remains-verified as accurate"....
WTF????
I called Experian and was told the debt did show a different SSN number than my own...SO WHY IS IT ON MY CREDIT FILE!!!! They said it was because the name and part of the SSN matched and there was nothing they could do since they already verified the debt.
So I called Pallisades and was told again "there was nothing they could do - they veried the debt based on what Experian wanted veried"....
Basically they are verifying a debt using an SSN number other than my own but putting it on my credit file.
And to top it off I called AT&T WIreless and was told by someone their in their fraud dep't that I've never even had an AT&T account and the phone number they are supposedly collecting for has only belonged to one person EVER and is still in that persons name (which they wouldn't give me of course)....
What should I do now????
I called Experian back and got them to investigate the debt further and the mixup with the SSN as well but I don't feel like anything positive is going to come out of it based on what's happened so far.
If I sent Pallisades a debt verification letter will they respond with the details showing the SSN owing the debt?
What Experian said was that I really need to call Pallisades and get them to send me or them a letter saying I don't own them anything....YA, like thats going to happen....
Thanks, Shawn

Sue both companies for fraud. They have no right to ruin your credit for an account that isnt yours. Also, do not give them your accual SSN as they will use it to create other accounts and try to scam you.
File complaints with the FTC and BBB. Dont let them get away with this.

You are not alone my friend... I had 47 items removed by experian, but in the process tu and equ put all the crap back on there, and now i am dealing with them! Ms. Gist aka Ms. Miller aka Ms. Johnson has about 9 different social security numbers on my credit report. I have a defaulted student loan for a school I have never attended, and eviction from an apartment complex I have never lived in, a car repossession for a car I have never owned...do you get the idea...cause there are over 40 items on my credit report of this shit!

Hi, I registed. Hopefully I'll get some good info. When I called Palisades originally I did have to provide them with my actualy SSN, thats the only way I figured out that they have no debt under me....
Hopefully nothing bad will come of it.
How did you get the credit bureau to remove things that weren't under you SSN? Sounds like the same problem I had, only yours was much more extensive.
you do not have to give them anything but the last 4 of you soc.
you do not have to give them anything but the last 4 of you soc. i had to write about a thousand letters and spend an entire day on the phone. i was so happy when i got the notification that it was off, then only to find out that the other bureaus put it all on. it is still sitting there. i have too many things on my plate right now to deal with it. essentially everytime they pull this ho's c.r. they pull mine, so my score drops daily because she seems to enjoy the rejection of hearing no. My score has dropped over 150 points in the last year. I need a lawyer...but i am broke, and i sure can't get a loan:)
and welcome btw...this s the best place to chill on the net. we
and welcome btw...this s the best place to chill on the net. we are all broke and so far gone in debt...it does not matter how screwed up you think you are there is someone here who has it worse, but the beautiful thing is, nobody judges you.

How did you get the bureau to remove the erroneous entries from the other SSN from your report.
The agent at Experian mentioned if I wanted to file for a "crossed file/SSN investigation" and said that may take care of the problem but he said that it itself still wouldn't remove the collection from my account.
My credit is in the low 700s even with this but I don't want it to go any lower.
Now that I've been browsing the posts on here is seems that even being responsible and requesting an investigation can lower your score? WTF is that about...they do it out of spite for making them do some work on your behalf....
The credit bureau should know that the ss# do not match. Since
The credit bureau should know that the ss# do not match. Since they are the ones responsible for creating and holding these files, they should be more resposible for entries. Im assuming their computers should be able to "flag" multiple hits with different ss#s, or at least be set up to be.
The fact that you now cannot affort to even protect yourself or fight back is the major issue that the victims have to deal with. This is how some people just eventually pay debts that are not thiers just to get on with their lives.

I typed up a quick letter using a couple examples on this forum for them to verify the debt and such and mailed it out certified mail with return receipt today so we'll see what happens I guess!
I called there today and spoke with someone at Palisades in the dispute dep't and got her name, phone, and direct extension (she volunteered it) and said I should call Experian back and have them call her directly and that she'll verify it's not my debt...believe that when I see it.
I then called Experian this afternoon and they started another investigation with my "new additional information" as well as some type of investigation for cross-links SSNs or something (forget the exact terminoly he used).....
