Hi all. I originally found this site by googling the number that kept showing up on my caller I.D. At first it didn't make any sense to me because I don't have any debt that has gone to collection.
I finally had an opportunity to talk with the lady that has been calling my house everyday (including Sunday's) for well over a week.
She informs me that I have to make a $177 payment on my Dell computer that I bought in 2002 by tomorrow (today) or they're going to tack a bunch of fees on. She also tells me that not one payment has been made on this computer since it was bought -- not one. It was bought 4 years ago, by their records. She was not very happy with me.
The thing is I have never bought or owned a Dell Computer. I have not bought or do not own any Dell equipment. Of course she didn't believe me when I told her that.
Eventually she gave me the Dell financial number to call to report fraud (with much sarcasm). She told me I'd have to file a police report.
After fighting the automated menu for about a half an hour I finally get connected to a lady that tells me I've called the wrong place. She politely told me to try again!
I tried again and got connected to a man that (after about 15 minutes of drilling questions of my personal information) decided that unless I was lying to him with my answers, I could not possibly be the person owing the debt. He said it was not fraud. He said it was a mix-up.
Great. I said, "How can I get IC Systems to stop calling me? How can I get them to stop thinking I owe them over a grand?" He tells me to call them back and tell them that they have the wrong person. Grrrr.
I did. They asked me two questions and realized he was right. Grrrr. They apologized. I asked if they were going to stop calling me now. She said yes if I verify my number to her one more time she will fix it so they won't call me anymore. I did.
First thing this morning, they started calling me AGAIN!!!
Sorry for the long rant. I just don't know what else to do.
Can anyone offer me any advice?
Thank you.

Send the cease and desist letter. You can stop the collection ag
Send the cease and desist letter. You can stop the collection agency from calling you after they have received this legal letter. Explain the fact that they are trying to reach the wrong person and hence must stop all the collection calls. You can also keep a follow up over the phone and request to remove your name from their system. I think, things should appear straight after you have approached the matter legally. Read the FTC commentary to know how to deal with the debt collectors.
