Call the original creditor ..ask them date of last payment

Knowing the status of your debt account with your creditors or the collection agency does not restart the SOL period. It's only restarted when you make a payment or any commitment to pay the debt. You can request for the latest statement from the credit company and if it is with collection agency, ask for the debt validation. You should get the complete details about the account for which you are asked payments. Review it thoroughly and if the date of last payment is past the SOL period, notify them in writing about it. No legal actions will be possible against you if the statutes on a debt account have expired as per your state laws.

You need check the SOL of the state where the account was originally opened and the date of last payment done on it.
