I guess it all begins with my most recent trip to the doctor in which my blood pressure rang in at 164/114, and I just knew it was caused by work related stress!
Nevertheless, I still took precautions to decrease the pressure. I cut out all salt, cholesterol, and saturated fat from my diet, started taking supplemental magnesium and garlic, and my husband bought me a blood pressure monitoring bracelet so I can monitor my progress.
Enter the next work week....
Same old crap on the phones, taking calls and activating cards, until some rancid old bat tells me off because "She can't hear me and I just don't understand that!!"
The only reason I KEPT going is because previously, when given the impression that I should stop, I was written up for "skipping offers".
With sales offers, it's damned if you do, damned if you don't.
That was it!
I logged on the company feedback forum and RANTED about how this rancid old ninny was rude to me, and that I'm sick of being caught in a vise of manipulation between write-up-happy managers and customers who don't seem to think that I'm a person who should be treated with dignity. I closed my tantrum with a very insistent request of "Treat me the way I want to be treated please." and then closed my post by saying. "My last blood pressure reading was 164/114. Thanks a bunch."
Further into the week, I see something on the message board about there being a mass sacking of people in my department. I then receive a note from my boss saying that he needs to see me. I thought for sure it was my turn to get sacked. I started feeling especially tense when I saw a printed out copy of my lengthy complaint on his desk! I thought it was over for sure!
But all that happened was, he laughed as he found my choice of words rather funny, and he said that everyone under this roof feels the same way, but the feedback forum is not the appropriate outlet, I should bring these things directly to his attention. I felt like a fool.
As of today, I heard the details of one of the sackings! A very tenured rep got the axe for a "fraudulent sale" meaning that when she went to finalize a sale for a guy, when he said "Yes" his voice went up as if it were a question.
This company speaks of needing hundreds of more reps for each department, and at the same time, continues to sack people. Go figure.
Other blood pressure readings this week include 181/122, 172/118, 185/123, and 164/108 as of today! I need a vacation!

My health will get better! I'm using this time to get into the best shape of my life, bring my blood pressure down, be a temporary stay-a-home mom to my kitten, love myself, spruce up my apartment, and search for a real job.

Hi, I just saw your post. I am 26 as well and have been dealing with the BP issue. Last time I went to the doc mine was 178/119. The doc flipped, gave me some pills to bring it down right away and kept me there til it started to go down. This also happened several months ago. My problem.... birth control pills. I am back off of them again and I did my bp earlier today and it was 128/74. Are you on the pill? I know that I thought it was life too. I am an accountant, it was tax season so I was working 55+ hours a week, in school full time taking 15 credit hours, and have two boys by myself. My doc made me start crying cuz she said I was going to end up dead if I didn't drop some things in my schedule.
Nothing in life, especially a job, is worth you losing it over. I really hope things are better for you now.

I am on the pill! Have to be for life for medical reasons. My all time high was 202/139 and that was last night before bed. I think that if they didn't sack me, they'd have to bury me and explain the whole thing to my husband, why they felt I had to die just so they could meet their stupid numbers. Worst place ever to work. This corporation, a telemarketing corporation to boot, goes through employees in the same fashion that most people go through coffee grounds. This company is cannibalizing itself and soon enough will have run out of Pensacolites to hire and fire. Pbbbbbbbt!
best work week ever
Ari, Please take care of yourself. Take it from someone who has the health problems. You are to young for all of this. I am 42 but somedays I feel like 92. I have diabetes, chrons disease. I had 3 major surgies within 15 months of each other and facing another surgery the day after labor day. You did not need that job. Get your health straight first. Good things happen to good people and you will find a great job soon. Take Care God Bless KYSIDE38

I'm also sending them a rather irritated letter about what happened and the events leading up to it. Just to put them in their place and hopefully make them take a long look in the mirror.
Very pissed-off letter to ex-employer
I was told that if I wanted to dispute the case, I should contact a certain corporate mediator who shall remain nameless on the forum, here's a copy of the letter I'm sending:
Dear Mr. #####,
I am writing to you about my recent termination. To dispute the reason I was given, and take this opportunity to really stand up for myself for once.
The reason I was given for my dismissal was ???????rudeness???????. I was given the opportunity to listen to the call and hear their version of things. What I heard was not me being rude, it was me being tense, but trying my best to make myself heard to a caller who had a hearing difficulty.
Tense, because from the moment I started taking these calls, the pressure has been on full force to meet all these quotas, watch every second of everything I do, watch what I say down to the letter, tolerate a lot of downgrading talk from the callers, and grit my teeth while I endure what I came to call the ???????You-can????????t-do-anything????????right reports??????? namely PDM????????s and QA????????s. Finally, tense because I was never allowed to have my dignity and was always caught in a vise of manipulation between PIN-happy managers and customers who were unnecessarily belligerent about not wanting an offer.
When I was terminated, I also don????????t think I was given enough of an opportunity to stand up for myself. I was in a compromised position with two managers looking down at me as if I was to be pitied. Rudeness is not what I am guilty of. Rudeness is what I had to endure day in and day out from these callers. It all wore on me, rudeness from callers and criticism from management. I did bring this concern to one of the managers that day, only to be told that ???????American Express says that they have the right to treat agents as good or bad as they want.??????? Quite frankly, that is very wrong and a very ugly thing to say. It doesn????????t matter who some of these people think they are, nobody has the right to be verbally abusive. To do so for no good reason, not even anger or frustration, is harassment.
The funny thing is, had one of the team leads not been so quick to hit me with an undeserved PIN, I may have taken an opportunity for advancement, hence I wouldn????????t even be writing this letter. I hold a Bachelor????????s Degree in Business Administration and Marketing, and I graduated summa cum laude. I could have done so much more than taking calls and brought so much more to the table at West. But sadly, this corporation goes through employees at the same rate most households go through coffee grounds, and for very weak reasons I might add. That????????s a shame.
Let me just wrap this up by saying that I????????m not writing to fight for my job back. I do not want that much unnecessary stress back. However, I do deserve to be heard out. Or in this case, read out. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
