They've been calling me too religiously everyday except for Sundays.I finally answered my phone and they are a collection agency for Sallie Mae. Although i do owe Sallie mae money and I fell behind a couple of month and the WCC people were actually much nicer than Sallie Mae! According to the guy I spoke to since I set up a forbearance they will no longer stalk me ten times a days unless I miss a payment.

Hi cocogirl164

Welcome to the forums. I will always suggest you to keep making regular payments to improve your credit report and at the same time avoid the harassment of the bill collectors. As long as they keep on getting the money, they will not trouble you so much.

However, as you said the bill collectors have been calling you religiously, you can send a written notice to stop contacting you by phone and they need to correspond only through letters. Please send your letter through certified mail requesting for return receipt. They are required to stop calling you after they receive your letter.

Regards
Roxette

I tried to call back and it was constantly busy. When i did answer a recorded voice said hold trying to connect then after four trys of this voice message stating they were trying to connect a busy signal commenced and it hung up. So do not call! Pass this along to sallie mae and wcc. I will be trying to find this wcc and send them a letter.

Hi ALASKA FAMILY

Welcome to the board!

You can also write a cease and desist letter to Sallie Mae and make your move stronger. Upon receiving your letter, they are not allowed to call you as per the fdcpa laws. If they do, it will be violation of the stated laws and you might take legal actions against them.

Send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. You will be confirmed of your letter being delivered to them.

Regards
Roxette

I have also been receiving these calls for the past 3 months. I do not have an outstanding student loan and even though I explained that to these people and they promised to take my name off the call list, they still called me again 5 minutes later! And also the next morning and the next night. it is a relief to know i am not alone and I will take the advice listed in the above forum. Thank you so much for your help! Has anyone gotten resolution on this yet?

Also in Alaska

Welcome to the forums.

Follow the suggestions posted above if it relates to your problem.

Also, you can start recording the phone calls as it is permissible in your state. Recording the call may keep them on their best behavior.

The states which require permission from both parties before the calls are recorded are California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Washington. If you inform them in advance and they continue the conversation, it means that the permission has been given by the other party.

Roxette

May,

As suggested above, you have the federal right to send a cease and desist letter that will stop the company to contact you. If they do, it will be a violation of the fdcpa law. And you might be willing to file a legal case against them.

To make the legal approach stronger, you should start recording the phone calls and inform the other party that the call is being recorded. They will refrain from harassing further if they are aware about your intentions.

I've been recieving a lot of calls from what your site says is the Sallie Mae. Due to medical issue I fell behind in my payments, but am trying catch up with my bills.

They keep calling me ALL the time sometimes from blocked number or this 702 number. Today alone I have recieved 5 falls in less than two hours! When they call from the unblocked number I they don't leave messages. What is the address I can send this cease and desist letter to?

harrassedbySallie,

Why are they calling you? Do you really owe to Sallie Mae? Then send them a letter stating that you would prefer to be contacted through mails, rather than over phone. Send this letter through certified mail and don't forget to request for the return receipt.

If they continue to call you after receiving the letter, file your complaint with FTC, BBB. debt collectors are not allowed to call you once you have requested not to do so.

BTW, why don't you pay the loan off? Ask them to validate the debt and if their demand is justified pay it off. You can also sit with them to prepare a payment plan. Or, you can enter into a consolidation program to repay the loan without any hassles

First contact FTC or BBB and file your complaint. Keep these recordings with you safely and submit when needed. Or you can hire a lawyer who can proceed legally with all these documents.

for their daily harrassments? What i really want to do is to get them on newspapers and on the news. Why not just call a collection agency. cheap

Id love to file a class action suit. if you're still getting calls after you filed BBB and FTC and you've writtened to them several times, i hope we can get them to stop

has anyone changed their phone numbers? And still getting calls?

Harrasedbysallie,

Today my phone started ringing at 8:15am, 10:14am, 11:15am, 12:15pm, 1:16pm... they call every hour at 15 past... I don't eve answer my phone anymore for fear it is them. I have a loan from them but was unemployed for 2 months, then after getting a job I crashed my car, I have informed them and do make payments, but am not 100% cought up. These people are more anoying then anything I have ever had to deal with. Sometimes I just answer and hang up right away... AND THIS IN ON MY CELL PHONE!!!

Does anyone out there know if there allowed to call cell phone numbers? Because if it is i'm going to change my #...

Sammy,

If you don't answer their call, they will assume that you are running away from your debt. But the fact is that you are still making the payments and you need to inform them.

I suggest you to talk to them with confidence and request to stop calling you further. Hopefully, after hearing from you, they should stop calling you.

We know that fdcpa laws are only for debt collectors but a part of it is still applicable on the creditors as well. First party does not have the legal rights to violate the laws.

Check the consumer protection office in your area. You will get more details about it.

deena10,

Do you have any account with Sallie Mae? If you have a past debt, they might be calling you for payment purpose. Call them back and know the actual reasons. If you do not owe them anything, your name must be removed from their system. Talk to them and make everything clear.

thanks for the number ben, but they don't believe me that I have no outstanding bills. I'm a high school student and apparently they were given the wrong number. They think that I am lying about my name and I am someone else. I will be contacting the BBB and sending a letter- but somehow I don't think they will care.

I just happened to try a search for the number that has been coming up on my caller ID every few hours over the last month or so and see that it is Sallie May. I have never had a student loan and never dealt with them. Although my number is on the national do not call list and I have filed a complaint, the calls keep coming. :x

Since you are pretty sure that you did not owe to them, chances are your number has been entered in their database by some mistake. Have you ever spoken to them? Did they explain the purpose of call?

However, if they call you again, pick up the phone and explain your situation to them. Try to get the supervisor over there.

If this does not work, send them certified mail and ask not to call you any more. Keep us posted.

We do not have a student loan. My married daughter who does not live with us gave them our number as a reference.

She is not paying the bills so we are getting harrassed. I have told them twice not to call here again. We are also getting letters in the mail from them.

Anne, send a cease and desist letter to the Sallie Mae's mailing address. This debt does not belong to you so you have the legal rights to stop them from calling you. Though, the C&D clause is not applicable on the credit companies, but you can always inform them about your actions. You can also take a lawyer's help in this matter and put a check on the activities of Sallie Mae.

I started getting calls from a new cell # I received from Nextel over 3 months ago. After 5 calls from the collection agency and more from Sallie Mae- I spent over 45 minutes on hold TWICE to advise them that they had the wrong phone #. I have had two conversations to the collection agaency and 2 others with Sallie Mae. They told me this information was over a year old! They assured me that my number would be removed two weeks ago and TONIGHT I got a call from this stupid collection agency. This has been going on for over 2 months. #1) Feel horrible for anymore that has to deal with Sallie Mae who is obviously pathetically unorganized mess #2) appreciate advice on this web site.

This Sallie Mae WCC, you can reach someone at 702-804-8437. I asked them to take my phone number off their list. I understand they are collections, but when I tell someone you have the wrong number, they have been warned. When the young lady demanded me to tell her if I know someone- THAT WAS IT!! The person I spoke with at the number above, I warned him that If I recieve another phone call, I will file a lawsuit.

So what address do I send this letter to? Or what website do I look up? Honestly, if Sallie Mae is so worried about people not paying maybe they need to make it easier to get in touch with them!!!
